Drifting for Katrina - a fundraiser for hurricane victims!!
Drifting for Katrina Please visit http://www.worldwidechang.com/Katrina for more information, updates, etc. Please help me spread the word on this... the more people see it the bigger chance I have to raise more money. As of Monday the 12th I am choosing the Salvation Army to be the charity of choice for donation, although I am also doing some research with the help of friends in Houston on local charities in the area that might have a better impact on donations towards hurricane victims. And I thank you for taking a look at this... =) With sincere thanks, Alex Chang So this is how it works (taken from my site): How does it work? Remember when you were a kid, and either you or your friends/classmates had to take part in fundraisers for a school trip? You were often given candy to sell for a premium, or you also went around soliciting pledges for your fundraiser from individuals. These pledges are no more than $5-10 per person, and you just need a minimum amount of people to reach your fundraising goal. As an adult, the same concept is used in fundraising for a worthy cause. Some might have people pledge money for a sports event, others might donate for a marathon (like AIDS Walk, etc). The general concept is the same, where you pledge a small amount and fundraise a lot of money by virtue of “power in numbers”. Well, when I saw the devastation from Hurricane Katrina, the first thought that came to my mind was “How can I help?” Given that we are so far from the disaster area, the best thing we can do is to donate cash to help relief efforts. Then I had this awesome idea of Drifting for Katrina. Here’s how it works: I will compete in Drift Day Competition 5 on September 25th 2005, and you as a supporter will pledge a specific dollar amount for supporting me in the competition. The higher I finish, the more money you commit to the cause. The most amount of money that you can commit is $30. It isn’t a lot, and as an individual $30 might not seem like much, but if 50 people committed $30 each, that is $1500. 100 people, $3000. Just imagine the possibilities!!! The levels of participation… The following are the levels of participation you can take part in: A: Minimum donation: $5 B: Finishing in First Round: $10 C: Finishing in Second Round: $15 D: Finishing in Third Round: $20 E: Finishing in Fourth Round: $25 F: Placing in top 3: $30 Optional Bonus level: If I win the event, you commit $40 to this cause, and I buy you dinner. How do you participate? Send me an email to [email protected] with your name, email address, and the level you wish to participate in (A, B, C, etc). I will put your name in an Excel spreadsheet and update it daily. Thank You! Please help me spread the word! And I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart in participating in this event!!! Special thanks to Cheston Chiu for letting me use his car! |

Yeah, my friend Cheston's car. I was going to finish my other friend's car to drive but Cheston just offered it to me randomly after he heard about me wanting to drive in DDC5.
Then the hurricane came... Then this idea came up. So here we are... -alex |

haha Thanks for the support.
I guess nothing is a free lunch; I just got a call today from Naoki @ Drift Day (a good friend, btw) who told me that a new rule is in place at all future DD events where if you compete you lose your status as an instructor. I am currently an L2 instructor, and under normal circumstances I would just not drive, but since I have already committed myself to this fundraiser I will forfeit my instructor status in hopes of raising money for this. So far I have ... 16 people. Most/all chose the top level to participate... and I thank each and every single one of you! -alex |

So far 25 people have pledge support… so the money spread is $125 for entry to upwards of $1000 if I win the event!!! Thank you so much for the support!
For everyone's information, the donation will be made to the Salvation Army. With Hurricane Rita approaching, now even Texas will be needing money.... Thank you everyone for taking a look!!! -alex |

HAHA thanks. I'll be in Norcal on the 15th for ALMS at Laguna Seca.. I can buy you dinner then!!!
I did perfectly fine in my morning runs, considering the fact that due to the car setup I could not clutch kick NOR use ebrake... but when it came down to the competition runs I choked and ended up making uncharacteristics mistakes. A few of my friends that were judging that day, all were mad at me afterwards for fucking up so badly.... haha. Oh well, just means there's more to look forward to next time! And yes, MO is okay. -alex |
