pUT MY S13 UP ON STANDS AND TOOK THE FRONT WHEELS OFF FOR THE FIRST TIME AND THIS IS WHAT I FOUND

Some of my seams are rusting and im wondering how bad is this? Im debating on whether i sell it and get a new chassis or keep it and have it repaired. this is the worst rust on the entire vehicle and the annoying part is its in such a structural part of the car.... (I wish it was on the rockers...)




and if you look at the one picture there is a small stress crack, seems like kind of a weird spot for one



so how bad is my rust problem

Ran into this like two weeks when I was getting ready to under coat the car, was worried at first but cleaned it up with a grinder and ended up stitch welding my car.

I cant weld and dont have access to welder, I know a shop that does good work but they arent nesecarily cheap, was wondering if im better off keeping and paying for the repairs or sellling and traveling down south to pick up a clean one, which is a huge pain in the ass and costs extra money

it seems like no 240's in my area are ever clean and im starting to think clean ones are nearly impossible to find

My town is literally on the Canadian Border so I know your pain on rust. I only stitched my car to tighten up the car. I traveled down south to pick up a car and it had the same rust there and around the battery tray. Just sand off all the rust/paint it/ and if you live up north like me I would go get under coat in a rattle can if you don't know a shop that does it.

I cant put a screw driver threw it yet but my guess its pretty close to that point

Thats what i was thinking, cause i looked in the texas area and the NC area and the cars there diddnt look perfect either

That is many times caused by a brake fluid leak. I do not believe that is structural at all, at least not just one rusty seam there. I've had holes the size of a softball fixed there by welding in a patch. This does not look to require that much work to fix.

Wire-wheel the dirt, rust and seam sealer away, use some POR 15 or other similar rust converter, then some underbody spray and you are done.

Certainly not a reason to look for a different chassis.

thanks for the response, the paint on the other side of that crack has actually peeled away, and was cause by a leaky brake cylinder which probably stripped the paint on the engine bay on that side of the car allowing the rust, because the other side looks alot better

so that explains that though i dont understand why the fluid causes the crack

The best bet is to take care of the rust before it gets worst and that's what rust does best. It shouldn't cost much to have a shop take care of that since you have no welder access but remember man. Never just topcoat rust it's the worst thing you can do.
