It is pretty damn difficult to test a MAF sensor. Some are pretty much un-testable. I'll check mitchell and see if there is a way to test the s-13 MAF sensor or if it is a process of elimination. MAF sensors rarely go bad though, especially on 240's.

Try to test voltage test on the car when idling should be somewhere between 700mv to 1100mv on the signal wire You need a DVOM to do it

That is not true at all.

Unplugging the MAFS basically puts the car in a 'limp' mode. Thus masking other problems. It could be something like the coolant temp sensor. Hell, I had the completely wrong ECU on my car, but when I unplugged the MAFS, it idled GREAT.

You need to get a voltmeter!

With the key in the on position Check the black/white stripe wire for 12 volts.

Then check the white(signal)wire for around 0.5/0.6 volts and heres the good part! Blow into the maf with the voltmeter still hooked up and your voltage should rise as you blow into it!

And then last check for a good ground on the black wire.

I hope this helps and this is the best way to see if your maf is realy working without doing the whole plug it in plug it out/borrow your friends maf guess work. You can also check your ecu for codes!
Good luck!!!

Swap MAF with a friend, if the problem follows the MAF, replace it... If not, keep searching for possible cause
