s13 Improving Brake Response

I've been trying to imrpove my brake response. I've got slotted rotors, Hawk SS pads, and SS brake lines. The problem is not with brake components themselves, but rather the response time that it takes from when I press the pedal to when the brakes enage. Right now, nothing happens until about half the distnace between the pedal and the floor. I would like to have the brakes engage when I press the pedal. Is there anything that can be done? I am contemplating buying EBC's Ultimax BlackDash USR Slotted Rotors and Redstuff pads. But, I really don't see how that would help. I would probably improve the overall performance, but I don't think it would help with the response time. Any ideas?

Have you ever replaced your tension rods? It sounds like you have the same problem i had when i first got my s13. I replaced the brakes, rotors, and changed to braided stainless lines and i still couldnt figure it out. What i thought would fix the problem of shitty braking (changing the brake setup to something far more aggresssive, like your thinking), did not infact fix it at all but did improve some what. I had to jam on the brake to get any sort of somewhat good braking. Igt was all because my Tension rods were blown to shit. the rubber was almost falling out. I replaced mine with the SPL tension rods, which by far are the best mod i have done to my 240 to date. I emphasize that you use a good product for a tension rod and steer clear of the close to stock looking ones. SPL's are beefy, even have an option to run a brake duct along with them which is really cool. After i installed them i noticed that my brake pedal became firmer, and braking was now reliable at all speeds.

I know it sounds weird to some people that a tension rod can effect the braking ability of your car but it does, and i think in your case it is the problem your looking to fix.

Adjust the brake pedal and booster output rod as per the FSM. Then bleed.

You can also upgrade the rubber flex hoses to braided hoses. The fluid pressure will not be wasted in expanding the rubber hoses, and instead can go straight to the caliper pistons.
