Piranhas
Started a Piranha tank yesterday, got them off the internet, going to move them to other tanks when they get bigger. copy/paste from another board:
The fish showed up at 10:30am(we ordered at 8 last night) and the kid we had tasked to accept delivery just dumped them in after a couple minutes of acclimation so I was kinda worried. They seemed to be doing fine, we fed them two blood worm pellets, one for each side of the tank. They seem to have congregated in the foliage in the corners mostly, interacting with whatever those feed fish are. here comes 10+ pretty boring pics:

I ordered them online from aquascapesonline.com I had to google that name to get a good link for some reason.
shmiddy, I am with you, I thnk fish are fucking lame. But there is nothing lame about carnivorous fish, especially ones that eat by tearing up their prey as a pack. are you with me on that? they will grow to like 6 inches or more. they can only stay in this tank for another 2 weeks maybe before they start to eat each other. We split 20 fish between 3 friends so we will divide them up into scholls of like 5 or 6 then sell the rest. I am also going to be setting up a tank this week for a largemouth bass. Theyre fucking savage as pets. I got a cousin who lives in the everglades hes shipping me some gar. if you guys want one of these piranhas or a gar let me know. the gar are free but the piranhas will be like 15-20 a piece depending on size. but you would honestly probably be better off just ordering from aquascapesonline. as far as the piranhas go, but the gar i can probably do for you, shipping is something like $40 overnight.

we had some at the office before.
the tank gets stupid dirty. plus a lot of times they don't always finish up the whole meal, so you have to take it out and blah blah blah. |

i used to have a piranha tank. it's cool to say you have piranha but eventually it's just lame because they're silver dollars that aren't big enough to eat live feeders...
i want a stingray but i don't want to go bigger than a 55g.. grumble. nice tank though

I've been raising piranhas for years now for a supplemental income. I'll have to post some pics of my breeding pairs and the fry tanks. I've got about 600 piranhas right now. (I just sold most of them to a wholesaler)
If you guys have any questions about any of the piranha species, I probably have the answer, so ask away. Oh yeah, to those that say fish are lame, you probably have a weak little tank. I've got a 180 gallon with a 12" Fahaka Puffer that is so aggressive he bites at the glass if you get close. That's the kind of fish you need to make you know fish aren't lame. Edit: I wanted to make a fish thread anyway, so reviving this was a good option. Don't bitch about reviving an old thread. It's not that damn old. |

Nice. I used to Have some R.B.P's.
I also had a Super Red Asian Arowana, sold it for $10,500. I think I paid like $2,200 for it as a juvenile. Piranhas are cool, but I like other agressive fishes. 1. African Wolf fish 2. Snakeheads 3. Spotted Aligator gar (one of my favorite) I stopped with aquatics for a while because I just don't have time anymore. At one time I had 8 tanks! Now I have a custom 180gallon with only 4 african cichilds...lol...no time anymore. I also don't buy anymore aggressive fishes because my family always say , "man, that's so cruel" everytime I would buy Feeder gold fishes for them to eat. I tell them "that's life, that's nature." but bleh... What are you feeding them now? Bloodworms..I hate keeping live bloodworms in the fridge...and that was another problem with my moms, kicks my ass when she finds worms in the fridge! LoL. GIve them time, and that goldfish is good as gone. lol. They are cool, but nothing beats a Super Red Arowana. The Skyline GTR of fish. |

LOL nice post Kal...
I feed them mostly frozen blood worm cubes and Hikari Cichlid Gold pellets. I am very thankful they have taken to the pellets, much cheaper than spending $1-2 a day on goldfish. Im thinking about making my own frozen food cubes, we will see.

PLECO still alive bloodworm everywhere, if it aint about the money puff i just dont care Added some sweet ass moss, shit got fucking everywhere, dumbass idea. So I pulled it out, left a little in the sand for the crayfish. Richard Kimball, one armed crayfish. So then i busted out some cheesecloth and wrapped the moss up and anchored with a rock, hopefuly this shit will carpet out. Sup Pleco

pbucch, best way i've seen to handle moss..... get some stainless steel mesh and spread out some moss on it, cover in netting, and then sew it all together. it'll grow and cover the whole panel, and then you have a little bed of moss. this ebay link describes it better.
Plant Net - Aquarium Plant Java Fish Co2 Moss Tank AQM - eBay (item 250334175769 end time Dec-06-08 11:00:00 PST) i plan to have a moss bed in my new tank. i'm going to set up a 55g here sooner or later.

Very cool.
I used to own some Piranha's back in the day. Got parasites from live feed, mostly goldfish feeders, cured the first time, 2nd time they got it, it was fatal But make sure you have lots of a room. I had a 75gal tank and the max I was told was 3 Piranhas to the tank. |
