it was arround 3 pm in the afternoon and i was just driving arround going to my friends house when all of the sudden i see my friends red debadged civic sflying up behind me, we catch the next light and we both reved, (he has a cold air and an cat back exhaust system)( my car is bone stock except a cone filter) i thought i had no chance at beating him but i decided to go for it just for hell of it. I put my car up to 26000 rpms and the light flashed green, I dumped the clutch and we were off. I killed him off the line (keep in mind that he has arround 40 more HP than i do), I cherped 1st to 2nd and then went through 3rd, it was arround 4th somewhere where he very slowly crept on by me, i was in 5th when i looked at my spedometer and it was SPIKED!! (my spedometer only goes to 115mph) it was way beyond where it was supposed to be, it was arround 125MPH!!

im sorry im with most of you on condeming street racing but dont i remember you dsc saying you taking one of the local corners at high speeds to reach a limit?
i know blair from the sr20deforums and he isnt a upside down visor wearer. ive gotten my speed up of course its at times when there is no to very few cars (yes i know its stupid of me) thats why i dont do it no more but at times i do (havent in a while) mostly on highways rarely if ever on a street. i just went to the track with my b14 to test it out. i guess im not worthy to remain on the zilvia forums

I'm with camppain on this one. Whenever there aren't other drivers around, or very few, the pedal goes to the floor. It just comes down to common sense. If you know your car, and you know there aren't any road hazards, fine! Bust it up to 180!
Granted, 125 on surface streets in prime drive time isn't very intelligent. Unless you have a completely clear stretch of road where you can see all exit and entrance points and there's not anyone there. Then, it's really not a big deal, other than if you screw up, you're going to wreck badly. 60 mph on single track dirt forest roads after a good rain (today) at 4:30 is wonderful! Not a soul in sight, and unlimited visibility. In other words, no cars or people to hit. Just deer, and trees two feet away on each side, but that's one of the risks. I think track racing is excellent, however, I think there's a little too much "holier than thou for not exceeding posted speed limits" on the board right now. BTW, Honda corners does tight paved corners at 85 (unfortunately, it's top speed at the moment), and easily jumps on forest roads at 65! Hehehe, wheeeeeeeeeeeeee! I updated the website a little bit but ran out of steam because computer is too goddamn slow.

thank you chickenmanq for your support.
It was a desserted road, there was nobody in sight for miles and it is as straight as an arrow and i could see for miles, I'm not stupid, I wouldn't race when there are any other cars arround, there isn't anything arround the area where i raced so if there would be any traffic it would be one or two cars in a 10 mile streach, if i saw a car i would slow down and stop racing. |

Hey AKADriver, Why wouldn't it go over 112 mph?
Mine did, it was way passed that, i don't think mine has a gov. on it.I think that the previous owner did something to it then because i was going arround 125 mph, either that or my spedo. is WAY OFF, which i don't think is the case.

as an fyi - the speed limiter is somehwere b/w 112-115.. (can't really tell since we don't have speedo's that go that high.) once you cut the speed sensor wire on the ecu, you will hit a rev limiter at 5500 rpm in 5th gear. Instead of the fuel cutting and the car bogging, it will shak violently as you bounce off the rev limiter. I was hitting that rev limiter somewhere b/w 120-125 on the track after cutting the speed sensor wire.
just a note, I agree that if no ones around, and you are the only person at risk.. driving fast is your own decision.

Ok what the fuck is it with you people? Whenever i see a street race topic, i always hear something like "you are a moron", "racing on the streets is retarded" or "we are not impressed". The guy decently raced an si. True or not that's what he claims. Think that after you told him he is a moron and he shouldn't street race he is gonna listen to you? Fuck no. I wouldn't. Who the fuck are YOU people to tell ME what to do? If you ain't got anything positive to say, say nothing at all. Thank you.
Now on to the track thing. I'm very happy that you have $400-$600 to dump on a one weekend at the track. That happens to be my monthly salary. Enough to buy me bov, intercooler and a downpipe. Do you think i'd ever spend my monthly salary on a weekend at the track? No. I'd rather go to the back country roads and take my chances with deers. P.S. I've never had my car over 110 miles an our. That happened once at 2am in the morning cuz there were no cars around and i was kinda falling asleep. I don't street race. And it's not because i think it's unsafe. I just don't get a kick out of it. Not yet. Probably cuz the car is too slow. I shift at 2,500 rpms and very rarely have it above 4,000. |

No it wasn't on purpose. There were no cars around, so i couldn't really compare to anything. Like when you go in a traffic, you know that you are not speeding. But when u are all alone and don't look at the speedometer it can go way off. At some point i noticed that things alongside the road move to fast. So i looked at the speedometer, and was like "oh shit" and got down to about 75-80. |

Street racing is how racing started.
It should be legal in certain areas to do it at certain times. No offense.

Racetracks were started so cars/people/mnufactures could get official times against each other for competition. It eventually evolved into the types of racing/rules we have now. Don't know which came first but I would assume road racing lead to most of the santioned races in all forms of racing. |

The 5spds are all limited to exactly 180km/h (112mph) with the stock sized tires.
Speedometers get way inaccurate when you get going that fast. Mine doesn't even stay correct in proportion to the tach. Look at your Rpm's when at 45mph and then when at 90. If it's like mine they arent quite double. |

there isn't a track anywhere near me so i have to find other ways to feed my addiction J/K i would rather race on a track but every once in a great great while i would do it illegaly
If i were to go to a track how much would it cost? and how many 1/4 mile runs would you get, is it more to get timed by your self or is it more to race someone? just wondering. What does a stock 89 240 fb do the 1/4 mile in? and how fast is its 0-60 mph, just wondering on some ppl's times who have allready been to the track. I want to go the the track very soon. P.S. i didn't mean to piss people off when i told them my racing experience.

---it's not $400-600. its 200-300 for a weekend of driving that I GAURANTEE will make you faster than your intercooler/bov/etc..---
The way I look at it: $250 for a set of sway bars (low estimate) OR $300 for driving time with a professional instructor on a real road course so you can actually learn how to handle that extra 50-100 hp you get from your future mods.. Fairly clear answer to me. Kinda the same reasoning why someone would buy 300zx brakes before their beloved intercooler or boost controller. SAFETY.

But be you the world autox champion there is no fuckin way u'll take me in a straight line if i got twice as much power. dunnow how it is for you, but for me seeing the nose of my car lift up as i'm getting pushed back in the seat, is the greatest joy of driving. yet. And spending even 2 week pay on 2 days at the track doing something that i don't even know if i like is just illogical for me. P.S. I won't mix 300zx brakes with suspension upgrades. They are too different things. Faster cars need better brakes, yet any car is given a right to make a turn at 60 miles per hour (not talking about results of doing that) be it a corvette or a metro. edit: another p.s. sway bars are gonna stay on yer car forever. You'll be ecperiencing their presence forever while you have your car. Yet you will only be given 2 days at the track. Ofcourse you'll be faster after that, but it's like material vs immaterial. Something you have vs something u experience. hope you understand what i'm talking about. |
