Curious if anyone knows anything about, or has examined firsthand, the oilpans I'm seeing on Ebay for the SR. They look like a pretty much exact copy of the Greddy big oil pan, complete to flapper doors inside - finned, cast aluminum.

Any info appreciated.

Two different sellers, don't know why the big price difference, the pans look exactly alike.

As far as laziness, I'm a great conoisseur of laziness, it keeps me going

ehh, looks like a good copy, but I just got the real one from Greddy.

Copy's like these should be like the autochrome manifolds, work awesome on so people, craps out on others.

But with a important parts like the oil pan, its a big risk you take when buying copy's.

LOL - it's an oil pan, can't get much more low tech than that. It sounds like you are trying to justify to yourself the extra money you paid for your Greddy pan.

I bought one on the knock-offs and it came in today. It looks good, the casting isn't flawless like it probably is on the Greddy. The only "real" problem was that one of the bolt holes on the trap door did not line up quite right with the ole on the pan. I solved that problem in about 5 minues with a small file.

i think he means if the copy pan somehow restricts oil flow or something. true its just an oil pan and shouldn't be hard to copy. but if it starves your motor of oil your motor is gone.

Hmm...imagine if they somehow made the bottom thicker so the bottom is closer to the sump and less gap for it to suck oil up....

LOL, sorry if that came off harsh. I usually hang the high dollar parts on my car too... Blitz, Greddy, HKS, Apexi, ect all reside on my 240. But I really didn't see much of a downside of going the cheap route on this one. I'll measure the depth when I put it on and make sure there are no clearance issues, but I really don't expect any problems.

Some people are fucking cheap... The quality is most likely degraded, this is noticeable by the huge price difference. Like said earlier, oil pans are designed a certain way. An oil pan is not just an oil pan. It's holding the life blood of an engine. If you are going to be that way just weld some Folgers coffee cans together...

Stop trying to stick up for cheap shit that isn't even yours. Your the one tring to reason with yourself of why you would buy such a cheap part. But I did forget that you are very educated in the automotive field and you must be right, so shut the fuck up and buy the cheaper part...

Two concerns about this pan. First, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the oil pan on the SR a stressed member of the engine? It probably wouldn't make a whole lot of difference if it was or not until you were pushing some serious pony, and if you were you'd be stupid to not use proven parts once at that level/price of performance. Second, like mentioned before, oil pickup clearnance issues. BTW, 89s132b, did you measure up the ebay pan yet??

Hello?? I DID buy one.

I took some measurements tonight. The flanges are 1/2" thick. The pan depth is a little more than 1 3/4" on the shallow side and a little more than 2 1/2 on the deep side.

only the upper pan. this replaces the lower pan.

you have to consider sometimes the cheap part is exactly the same as the name brand part but guess what because it is the name brand the price is raised. ta da. however i do believe in tried and true parts from a reputable company that is why i would say buy a nismo lsd instead of a phantom grip. there is such thing as price markup because of name brand its something everyone is well aware of.

They also don't say "SR20" on them. There is a space for it but it is blank. I really think they made a mold out of the GReddy pan to copy it then do their own casting. They probably took off the "SR20" to help keep them from getting sued.

It's good to know they are the same dimensions though.

I just wanted to make sure to verify the measurements of my real one agains that of the copy, so that a rummor doesn't start about them being smaller/shalower etc.

it's an exact copy of the greddy one.

exact same size, same sensor holes, same baffle doors.

and it fits and works.

I emailed the guy before asking him about the sensor hole.
his respones was that it was a copy of Greddy, having same fittings as they did (BSPT) for senders

When researching this topic someone mentioned that the knockoff oilpans are cheaper because of the actual metal casting. I read that knock off oil pans are prone to a loss of oil pressure because the metal casting on the knockoff was not as densea s the Greddy oilpan and that it was too porus like a sponge resulting in a dangerous loss of oil pressure. In this particular case of an aftermarket oil pan I would spend the extra $100 for that peace of mind you get from buying the real thing.
