Hey guys, i just bought a '91 DOHC and it has a slight knock that disappears or seems to when i rev. It is only audible with the radio off and at idle. Any ideas? The car has 85k on it with original timing belt? Is it this or did they fix the prob in the DOHC version? A shop said it was just hte valves? Whats a decent price for a valves adjutment?

Should i be concerned about the click or just ignore it? The guy i bought it from said his other 240 had the same sound for about 40k mi till he totalled it.

I'd be VERY concerned with mine, but I'm probably gonna do a swap pretty soon, so... I don't want to waste a thousand dollars. Well... think about it: a timing chain is ESSENTIAL for operation, so... if it fails, you've got more damage than I can list here .

My car (and I think most other 240s) has pretty loud injectors...more of a click than a knock, though. The timing chain problem was supposedly fixed with the DOHC KA. If you can pinpoint the sound by listening to the motor up close, you might can figure it out through process of elimination. If it's coming from the top of you engine, it's most likely not the chain.

My 200sx makes a horrable clicking sound and it leaks a lot of fuel. I popped the hood to discover that 2 or more of my fuel injectors are busted and spurting fuel and i'm pretty sure they're what are making the loud clicking sound. So if its just more of a clicking than a knocking (it seems there is a difference to me) than its either your valves or injectors. If the clicking gets really bad when you give the car a lot of gas than i'm pretty sure its most likely the injectors. Cause my car doesn't make a clicking sound at idle. It'd be good to get new injectors and get a valve job done ne way. lol just to be absolutely sure.

If it is the timing chain, its no biggie to replace, just pull the front of your motor, and reset the crankshaft and the camshaft to TDC and the hang the new chain on, its about 4 hours worth of work, make sure you put the proper amount of liguid gasket down where it is needed... and good luck with that....
