jdm 300zx swap on us 300zx help

hello friends,
i have a 300zx NA 90, and my motor just took a crap on me "rod knock" so im looking for another motor and i got a hold of this JDM engine for a very good price. Im thinking about placing an order this weekend but first i have started to do research on the swap and i can hardly find any info on this, i assume you may have to extend some of the wires from the wiring harness since the locations of some sensor may be different

but thats all the info that i have found, if any of you have done this swap or have extra info please hit me up and let me know. I have found also that the egr stuff is different.

Are you stuffing in another NA?

You can use all your usdm brackets off your current engine to make it the same, alt, power steering ect....

To play it safe I would just transfer over all of the attaching components from the USDM engine onto the JDM long block and drop in.

Simple and straight forward. No wiring hassles or headaches to deal with.

FYI the 300zxclub forum has a plethora of info on these cars.

Good luck,

Jose

There are almost no differences between the jdm and usdm variants of all vg series engines.

Um, just be sure to use the correct ecu/harness for the correct motor.

Dohc to dohc, sohc to sohc.

Turbo ecu will run on an n/a car. I wouldn't test to see if an na ecu will run on a turbo car. The harness plugs for the ecu's are identical for turbo and n/a variants of the same head type (dohc/sohc)

Hope that helps. Register on z31performance.com. Lots of good info on this stuff floating around on there. Not everyone there rocks a single cam either.

^^^Very true...

...but I think his question was leaning towards a Z32 not a Z31.

i just finished swapping a 94-96 jdm na vg30de in a 90-93 z all you really have to do is put your usdm oil filter attachment on the jdm motor or extend the yellow wire to the driver side of the motor because the oil pressure sensor is on the driver side for jdm and pass. side for usdm i just extended the wire. then dor the brake booster you need to take the vacuum fitting from the pass side out clean it throw some new pipe thread tape on it take the 12mm but out of the drivers side intake and switch them. wires are all the same other than oil press. i think thats it hope this helps
