I just got a 1989 Fastback 240SX really good condition etc. I noticed the governer about 5k rpm's and was wondering if it was from the ECu or what and is it easy to remove.
thank you, i searched but couldn't find it. Sean

No worries. There are wires you can cut, but it will mess things up... Generally it's reccomended to wait until you can afford an ECU from Jim Wolf Technologies. He'll remove the top end governor, and change the rev limiters for you, as well as giving you a better power curve, etc. Remember though... the longer you can wait for the ECU the better, because he can program information for all of the mods that you've got, making it more and more efficient.

I just did it and posted a thread on here somewhere it should only be a few pages back just make sure u cut the right wire the 1st time and u will be fine .... although u will only still be able to do 125 cause there is a 5th gear rev limiter ... i havn't tackled that project yet .... search for "yellow wire" in the topics.

Thank you, i heard on one posting about unhooking 2 transmission wires and u will have no 4 or 5th gear rev limit. BUt if i pay for that new ECU that will take it off completly right?
thanks. Is my car goverened to 140hp or is it goverened from 140hp? Sean

If you do get an ECU from Jimwolf just tell them what you have done to the car, and how you want the ECU programed like set the rev limit to 7500rpm no speed governer they will do it. But the last time I talked to them, it cost $599 to program, so maybe you wanna save the ECU for last. Under the car on the tranny there are 3 switches 1 for reverse light, the other 2 are 4th and 5th gear, if you unplug them the ecu will not know that the car is in 5th, now you have one more problem the ecu still see vehicle speed, if I remember right it is a yellow with a green stripe on it at the ecu in the pasenger's kick, cut it then you be fine

Just got to give you props on getting the single overhead cam KA! E's rock! Though I would kinda like to have the DE at times.
I'm surprised yours has a governor. I guess they never stuck them on trucks since they didn't think they would be going 110 mph. Hehehe. I averaged 90 mph from Flag to PHX. Poor little needle was buried most of the way. And I outcornered a Honda accord through the twisty section near Black Canyon City. I was doing 92ish, and he was too wimpy to follow. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'> Oh yeah, we're all pretty nice on this forum. It's one of the better forums I've been to. |

HEY!!!! MAKE SURE U CUT THE RIGHT WIRE!! I don't know about the S13 KA24e but mine had 2 yellow wires with green stripes that's what my post was about. The right one to cut on the S14 is a yellow wire with a green stripe and it has 2 silver dots every inch ......... the other yellow wire with green stripe only has a one silver dot every inch DON'T CUT THAT WIRE!! and u'll be kewl.

Umm.. tell me if I'm wrong, but it sounds more like someone already cut the wrong wire.. I mean the Stock KA revlimiter is like 7300 rpm right? it sounds to me like something is wrong, shouldn't be hitting a rev limiter at 5 grand.
I've heard about people cutting the wrong wire trying to do the rev limiter fix and it lowering the rev-limiter. Maybe thats it?? |

Ya all the information i have offered is to a 96 S14 i don't know about nething else and yes i did cut the wrong wire the 1st time, i clamped it back together but my check engine light is still on. Now, There is a speed limiter that kills u at 118mph. Cutting the wire at the ECU will take car of that. Then there is a 5th gear rev limiter that kills u at about 5200rpm=125mph. VERY VERY SIMPLE TO TAKE THIS OFF. I did this today, there r 2 sensors that look just alike on the passenger side of the tranny. The 1st one (towards the front of the car) is the 4th gear rev limiter. I just left it alone cause i don't think i will ever be doin 120 in 4th gear. And the 2nd one (towards rear) is the 5th gear rev limiter. VERY SIMPLE there is a plug just unplug it then tape up both ends then the sky is the limit!!! I got on the interstate today and had it to the floor and it would only do about 135mph~ im guessing cause my speedo only goes to 120. That's good enough for me the car felt #### good at that speed too.

I BEAT THE GOVERNER No modification really at all. Wanna know how? I burned out my clutch. I guess that was an extreme way to do it but its done, ill just pretend it wont be there when i put a new clutch in there. What is a good clutch and how much do they cost, im going to advanced auto to see what they have.
thanks sean |
