Dash Flocking DIY
Ok, so I want to flock my dash, and have tried to search the net for a DIY on how to do it. I am willing to buy the gear needed as long as it is not too much money, but I cant find a single DIY thread or page... Anyone know of one or willing to explain it to me..
Thanks. |

yeah right - lol DIY flocking sucks dick.
I have seen people try and fail - spend the 150$ and get it done professionally. You have to statically charge the part - cover it with the epoxy and then adhere the nylon fibers to it - then they stand up bc of the static elec. y exactly do you want it? to look cool? or is it for a racecar so the dash doesnt glare? I mean its nice and all - but in a street car u'd have to do the doors and all so it looks right. google it - its used moslty on rally cars. http://www.flockit.eu/flockingfortheroad.html

you arent going to listen to me - but i want everyone to know that doing this urself is not going to save you 125 fucking dollars to have someone else do it.
its a shit job and its tedious and the amount of effort it takes is fucking terrible and i dont advise anyone to do it themself. it looks nice if u do every part and its proper - doing just the dash is queer.

If you don't do it perfect, it looks like shit.
I saw a picture of a flocked dash in a forum somewhere and it was like seeing a fat girl in a dress. You tell them they look good, but in reality they have sushi rolls everywhere and you want to throw up. Don't let your dash become a similar victim.

flocking is better than wrapping in suede, no chance of wrinkling.
it probably wouldnt add much weight id probably strip the vinyl off down to the plastic, scuff it, adhesive, flock victory.

flocking weighs like 12 ounces for doing the entire dash - BUT its best left to the pros.
alcantara and wrapping dashes are show car stuff - flocking is supposed to be for racecars. dont get it unless ur shit is worthy.

its not like glueing sand to paper... you need to electrify the part.
you cant do it if you have to ask. and your shit prolly isnt worthy.

It looks sweet when done proper
I saw they sell kits somewhere...I think I saw it on ZT'd or something. It would probably come out like dook if you tried doing it yourself though. I kind of want to do it.....maybe not.

I'm looking to flock part of an airplane interior. Flocking was quite common in the 50's and 60's. While sometimes large portions of the dashboard were flocked, it was extremely common to have the inside of the glovebox flocked. Can't find local pro and the kits that I have found ignore the electrostatic part of the application. Any help?

Dash-Interior Flocking
Flocking is a process that routinely used in the 50's, 60's and beyond, quite commonly done to the interior of gloveboxes. Can't find anyone locally who can apply flocking and the do-iy-ur-self kits seem to all ignore the electrostatic part of the process. Anyone one know of a good kit or of a pro applier around Dallas, TX? Trying to do an exact restoration.

I've flocked countless subwoofer enclosures and it is very easy to do successfully as would be your dash. I'm actually contemplating doing this to mine along with the door panels. But I will warn you, it is messy as hell to do. The stuff I use is found here.
The Install Bay No need to electrify the stuff. Just clean the surface very well, spread the adhesive, apply the flock, walk away for a day, come back, shake off the excess, and your done. I have no photos of any enclosures on this pc. They are all on my old busted ass pc and I cannot get them off. Sorry.
