Yes it will quietly knock at idle and sound will get fast and louder as RPM's increase.
Is it a "Knock" or a "Tick" Post a vid if possible

RIP SR20
That's rodknock. I've heard this 100 times you've got two options 1backyard hope for you life 100 dollar gamble)...roll a new set of rod bearings in, one size over, hope for the best 2: Get a new long block. Hope she treated you well, there's no mistaking that sound.

Yup, thats definitely rod knock. Only other time that I head a knock like that and it turned out not to be rod knock was with Hypnotik. His shit wasnt rod knock, it was piston slap. His #3 cylinder somehow was shaped like an egg and the piston was slapping on the the side of the cylinder.

if you are changing out the little things, you could also take this time to beef up the head, rocker arm stoppers, cams, and maybe different pistons and rods on the bottom if you wanted to go hardcore.

yes my sr makes the same noise as yours at the exact rpm range no noise below or above that rpm range, my motor has been making that noise for 4 almost 5 years now ever since it was rebuilt. the noise has not got any worse overtime.i have pulled the oil pan many times and it been clean every time. my car is daily driven every day to and from work.i don't know what the noise is there have been other people with same noise at the same rpm range.

If you can get down to LB tomorrow I will give you a couple hours of my time to check it out and give you a final answer. If it's what I think it is (other than rod knock) I may be able to fix it on the spot

checked out the car today in person.
This should go as a lesson to swap shops and other DIY'er to make sure to pull the oil pan and check the oil pick up condition as well as hammer out the oil pan or use an upgraded one right off the bat. These motor's are seriously sensitive to oil starvation of any kind. I have suggested that he pull the oil pan, check for copper filings from any possible bearing wear and replace the oil pick up if it's broken. If the oil pressure is just started to fail then you can catch it, get the oil pressure back up to where it needs to be and eliminate the little amount of metal on metal knock you are having with your motor. Saving it. But it will be a close one.

Tensioner would either be plastic or metal
