s14 1997 240sx KA24 engine problem. Knocking. PLEASE HELP

hello everyone, see if you can help me out here. i was driving my 240 around town the other day and it had just finished raining. i went through a nice size puddle of water and my car stalled out. it has an injen cold air intake with just some headers and 3 inch exhaust with a magnaflow. i let it sit for about 10 min and started it up again it smoked from the exhaust so i gave it a couple of revs to clear out, and i noticed a knocking noise. knocking sounds like from the top end but not sure. checked all the exhaust and pulleys and everything seemed fine. took the valve cover off and couldnt see any real damage. timing chain is tight. i dont know if its a rod knock it isnt that loud. car revs up like normal and drives like normal, just knocks. no chocolate sludge in the oil. plugs looked great. car has 143k miles. any ideas? thanks and any help is greatly appreciated.

i garentee you your cold air intake sucked up water. This happend to a friend of mines. He sprayed sea foam into his intake and his car ran super dirty for about 20 mins but acted perfectly fine after that. But i can most honestly say you sucked up water for sure.

depending on how hot your car was when you hit the water, it might have cracked something internally or maybe even fucked up a lifter or valve. i wouldnt take not at everything under the valve cover and more. Compare everything to each other. see if theres any differences with each lifter and shit... this is why you dont get cold air intake haha. #1 reason why i dont have it. LOL

Wow you kids are retarded.

OP: Is it a knock or tick?

Is it quiet at ldle and the knock get louder/faster through the RPM's?

You Tube 240SX knock/tick ect. see if it matches your sound

So far sounds like you bent a rod/spun a bearing.

hopefully you didnt hydrolock your engine. if so, you more than likely tried cranking it and bent a rod. hope thats not the case though

way to jump on the bandwagon there. I'll gladly take your ka off of your hands if I can talk my uncle in LA to pick it up from you. It only costs me about 600 to rebuild ka's now. The best thing to do would be not hit big puddles post-rain with a CAI installed. The NEXT best thing would have been to take your plugs out, and turn your motor over a few times to try to get the water out of the cylinder. We live and learn though. Good luck with your sr. At least you're not letting a kouki go to waste.
