Battery Backwards
Ok, I am literally a dumb ass. I hooked up my battery bacwards and I now have no power what so ever inside the car. Everything was working normaly prior. The battery was connected backwards for no more that a minute.
The only thing that seems to be working are the head lights. Things that aren't working would be my clock, guage cluster, radio, afc, and brake lights. The car will not turn over to start. I have gone through and checked every fuse and tested every relay except for two underneath the dash. I have even tried a different ecu. Nothing seams to work. I have no idea where to go from here. |

Yes, it is a new battery and new starter. The relays I have been using are relays from another harness that I have been swapping out to test.
If a wire got too hot and melted would anyone have an idea of where I could look first without having to deloom my entire harness? |

did you check the 75A alt fuse, $13 dealer item
its a small square fuse under the hood, its going to be closest to the pass wheel in the fuse box on the pass side. |

if i were you. id start looking for a new engine and chassis harness. Because you may replace every fuse/relay. But i doubt your going to find every place where you burned up your harness. And now your car is a fire hazzard waiting to happen. only saying this because ive had 2 customers do the same thing and both cars burned to the ground within a month of it happening. One of them was in my garage and the other ignited at speed on the track.

backwards... uhh... like what ^^ said, follow the smell.. if all your fuses look fine, i'd really start to examine the wiring harness....
i don't know if this matters, but i have a good KA24DE and SR20DET wiring harness in case you need it. was going to sell for like.. 30 bucks. |

maybe it's your transmission wiring harness... might make sense if power is getting to other areas of your motor but not to your starter, alternator area.. i dunno in terms of wiring harness inspection, i'd look at that one first.

my cousin did that on his S14, make sure you didn't just mess up the battery, his would only power some things after he put the battery backwards then put it back, test your battery if it's new you can just return it and get another.

My dumba** did the same thing while rushing around last weekend....It blew my 75A fuse. I put in a new one and it turns over and everything inside works except the radio, but it wont fire up. Havent had the time to check any relays or anything yet, but it leaves me to believe its going to be the ecu thats bad.

Immediately pulled over and checked it out. I could tell it was coming from the main harness near the pass. headlight. Cut the thing open and sure enough the wires were all melted through. I never realized that was from putting the battery in backwards until now! It all makes sense. Will have to replace the harness next engine swap.... |
