If your stock temp gauge is moving up and down while driving, I'm pretty confident its the coolant temp switch. I had this issue when I was at a Grange event after 1 lap, my stock gauge would be almost at H. I let my car cooldown and went back on the track with a friend with a stock SR and compared temps, my gauge was nearly at H as his was in the middle. We pulled into the pits and checked with a temp gun and mine was 5 degrees cooler than his. After that, I went back on track and ran 3-4 laps before cooling down.
Pick up a s14 coolant temp switch.
