1993 sc300 W/ Vertex kit, 750il rims, and coils

So my buddy with a 1993 sc300 2jz, and 5 spd wants to trade for my 1995 auto kouki converted 240sx..
Which would be more reliable?

I don't wanna drift, track or anything like that, Just like to park hard..
My car has a LONG list I still need to do heres some;

Auto>5spd
All bushings
all suspension components
rear swap bar

He only wants my car because he always wanted a kouki..
And he likes to build things.. I on the other hand have no time..

I'm pretty sure a bone stock 240sx is more reliable than a 2jz SC.

I'd still take the SC though. IDK why he'd do a straight trade with you, but if I were you, I'd do it.

The car is worth more.

EDIT: oops, wasnt thinking that sc's come stock with the 2j. I was thinking 2jz like turbo swap. I'd still take the SC.

If it's a factory 5 speed SC those cars are pretty rare. You can always slap on a 2JZGTE head and boost that 2J

Only thing is, is gte head cost just about as much as a GTE motor alone... unless you find a used tt head with good turbos. other wise... might as well go full GTE. Or just boost the n-a as long as its not VVTI.

also, let this inspire you.

I've heard that 2JZs are really reliable engines, no personal experience though.

I mean other than that, you could have a ballin ass car or a stock shit box. Also, it's worth more when you go to resell it, right?

Yeah 2jz and the drive strain is bullet proof. My car has 220 k on all the drive train and it drives great... No issues what so ever.

Sc for sure.
S14 are dime a dozen
5spd sc are uncommon. It'll hold it's resale
Value if u ever decide to sell it. And for just a daily, they're far more plush.

take the sc300, ive done research and gathered alot of info over the years and i know the sc model lexus are like owning a mkiv supra they have the exact same chassis just a diff body, its like a supra with a trunk lol, and everything on those 2 cars are interchangable and heres another reason you should get the sc300... ITS GOT A 2JZ!!!

my sc3 has 205k miles, stock w58 tranny (my car's window sticker clearly says 5spd), and it's still running strong. The only problem I see with sc's is that b/c it's a lexus, the bushings are super soft == higher possibility to tear at higher mileages. But, suspension and steering rack, etc can be replaced with polyurethane (prothane, r2, daizen, etc). Another thing is the rear main seal may develop leaks so you'd have to drop the tranny to get to it to stop oil leaks. parts-wise, it comes out to 35$ or something, but labor will require a lot more.
b/c sc's are getting pretty old, smog could be a problem but as long as you just make sure to clean out the EGR valve before you go in for testing, it should pass with no problems.
also, mileage blows. I used to get ~22mpg (95% freeway driving) on 17" rpf1s, but now that i've gone up to 18", i think Ive settled around 20-21mpg.
I can't really say much about s14's since I've never owned one, just wanted to let you know of a few things that would probably pop up during the ownership of an sc.

SC for sure. As stated before, the motors and transmissions are beasts from factory. Check out SupraForums or Club Na-t and you will see some guys making sick power with minimal mods. I am kind of bias though because I am slapping a 2jzge into my S14, best of both worlds: Body Sexiness + Power and Reliability = Winning combo.

Pretty much what this guy said is true. I hated my SC because of the poor mileage and other shit the car does. I couldn't afford to do anything to it.

Look at this one though... pretty sickkkkkkkkk
