I've got an '89 S13 KA24E that I have to smog again in CA, but was bought out of state way back when

Never had an issue prior, but this time a particular smog tech failed me for not having a check engine light on my dash. I assured him my car never came with one from the factory, but he refused to take my word for it

Any way I can legitimately prove it to him or just eat the failed smog test and take my business elsewhere?
