I have a 1990 nissan 240sx hatch.The car has been sitting for about a year and I just finally put a new battery in her today.I parked the car on the street and revved a couple of times and let it idle while i checked some things around the car.My car started smoking in the engine bay so i shut the car off.I noticed when i stepped out of the car that something leaked under the car to the curb.Also I opened the hood and noticed fluids on my battery.My question is..What are some components or things to consider that I might have to change seeing the fluids on the floor and the battery?Also why did my car overheat?I didnt get a chance to check under the car for anything since the sun faded fast.I have a koyo radiator in my car so im thinking it cant be the radiator.If you guys can help me figure out what this might be..ill really appreciate the suggestions and ideas.Im not sure of the way to thank people on here but I sure will after the discovery.Thanks everyone.

Sounds like the thermostat is stuck closed. Other than that, check for leaks. I just hope it's not any internal engine problems for your sake. Check the easy things first and then go on from there.

will do..also my father mentioned something about the fan clutch not kicking in.something to consider to i guess..could be endless possibilities..but i will look up that thermostat.thanks

Found out a little bit more about that thermostat.ill be changing the thermostat when i get some extra cash when i get paid.i know i gota research and i will be..but is there any guidelines i have to follow prior to taking out the thermostat out of the housing and putting it back?ill find out more..but if you guys want to throw me some ideas..

^ i am sure there is a write up somewhere. change the coolant out. the bleeder screw is a good tool, use it. run the heat a bit with the screw out to get potential air out of the heater control valve. oh yeah if you have a cracked overflow tank replace it.

also getta electric fan to hook up instead of the clutch fan.
