check out my theory....

well for the past while my SAFC 2 has been reading knock. it never used to but im used to it now but im still trying to figure out why its reading knock.

so then i realized all this happened after my turbo blew its seals and i replaced it. well when my old turbo was breaking it was spewing some oil out of the outlet. Where does all that go...right into the intercooler. im running the stock sidemount but im beginning to belive there is alot of oil residue inside in between the fins. causing insufficient cooling since i only pick up knock after i been driving for 10 mins or so. i dont have time to inspect the insides of the intercooler cause im always having to drive places. But is this a reasonable theory?

lmk your advice

thanks, Derek

sounds feasible, what kind of boost/turbo you running? If there was oil in there, it wouldn't hurt to take the intercooler off and give it a solvent bath along with cleaning the piping. A suggestion for cleaning the piping, go to Home Depot and get one of those pipe cleaner on a wooden stick toilet brushes and some brake cleaner. Works like a champ. Also, has the temperature change significantly since all this occured.

http://www.are.com.au/feat/techtalk/intecoolersMR.htm

That page has a section about how to clean intercoolers. Oil Residue does cause poor cooling, Don't SAFC2s always read a certain amount of knock?

that page was really helpful. im gonna try and get it cleaned out asap. maybe wednesday. now i really believe there's oil in there after looking at that page. for SAFC2s they monitor knock in two different views. they have the monitor and the setting. the setting will always read knock but the monitor never used to. it would always read 0 but its been reading knock lately and just been getting to me. so i thought i'd try and figure it out.
