Look at how news used to be - all news and no opininion by the anchor or the newscaster. Now its all about opinion and emotions. Rachel Maddow does a good job of reporting without too much opinion. She is totally liberal so that is obviously where she reports from but she doesn't insert crazy assumptions as news/facts.

Why not tho? NBC, FOX, Times, CNN... they are all owned by corporations and are profit driven. Naturally they are gonna sensationalize stories and pump em up (Zimmerman) or the owners have an agenda and invested interest (pro/anti political issue/person).

American also only has a 15 minute attention span - what happen to closing Gitmo? Who killed the Ramsey kid?

Yeah and whether it was a hate crime doesnt matter anymore because the media made it seem that way. See things like that need to be regulated. Zimmerman wont sue and probably wont see the outside world after the trial is done but regardless. Media pumps things up and lies left and right. They did not even own up to it - they had to investigate.... Investigate what? Fire the ass who lied and make a statement about it. No instead they played it off as if it was a mistake. Lies lies and more lies.

They don't need regulated. People need to speak out more. We need an independent journalistic ethics organization in America. Whenever something stupid is said in the media they can get called out and sanctioned by the other more ethical outlets.

Rush Limbough does that job well. But only conservatives listen to him so none of his views reach the liberals. This all comes down to doing what is right not what is popular. The people in this country have lost their spines completely. Im one of those people thst will pull up to you at the red light and ask you - do you realize you ran the red at the last intersection? And most people will get defensive and think that im trying to start a fight. Even though im asking this in the most calm voice. But god forbid you tell someone they fucked up!!! Ive done that many times and people just ignore it. The other day some douche stopped in the middle of the intersection and had to back up when he realized it. Car going theough the green almost crashed trying to avoid the idiot. So when i pulled away at the light i noticed the guy is talking on his phone. I honked and gave him the hang up the phone gesture (thumb up, pinky out, hand next to ear pretending its a phone) and he looked at me like i was an idiot and sped off. I would have been embarrased and i would have thrown that damn phone right out of my hands. Is the rest of the country full of idiots like Kalifornia? Im only using these examples because its a car forum but i have countless examples of how f-ed up most people are. I wonder where their parents were when it was time to raise these ignorant bastards.

The problem is, the only way someone gets called out is if its in another networks best interest.

Dan Rather is a great example. His (and CBS's) hatred toward Bush drove him to air bullshit information that he failed to fact-check. Fox News (pro Bush) and others called him out and drove the point home. Rather was basically fired as the scape goat.

Beyond that, the media spends all day bashing each other. NBC says Fox is biased and Pro-Republican, Fox says NBC is biased and pro-democrate.

I was thinking more along the lines of Underwriters Laboratories. Nary a product is made that doesn't have their stamp of approval on it and not a single government cent is spent on all their testing.

I listen to Rush in the mornings. And I can honestly say that the man is a dangerous hypocrite.
I remember one morning about a year and a half ago when he said that he wants Obama to fail. I'm sorry, but I never want ANY president to fail in their job! I didn't want Bush to fail (he did regardless). If the president is failing, the country is failing. IMO to say that you want the president to fail is to say you want the country to fail. You can't get less patriotic than that.

Wrong. 70% of his listeners are actually liberals who hate his guts. They sit there listening in rage wait to hear "what stupid bullshit he'll say next".

This is why they think he speaks for all conservatives and all conservatives agree with and listen to him. This is also why Liberal talk radio has consistently failed.

Conservatives won't listen to it as it is "garbage" and liberals won't because "you are preaching to the choir".

If Bill Maher and Rachel Maddow had talk radio shows/podcasts once a week I'd probably be down to listen to them.

I think the heart of it is that there isn't and likely never will be a unified liberal voice. It's not a culture that lends itself to sheepishly following a talking head in a box. Doesn't mean they critically think anymore or less than conservatives though.
