that rates all the automobile manufacturers on dependability and oeverything else? One came out recently that put American cars over European cars for the first time. Japan was still #1 in almost everything. Forgive me for being so vague.

Hey, they are not a non-profit organization and don't claim to be... Any such operation is always open to the beauty and profit afforded by good old fashioned nepotism... One car/phone/electronics company will pay them enough to say that they're better than the others and that their most credible rival is utter shit.

JD Power takes a load of cash from companies and, in turn stop JUST short of completely smearing their competitors, and do so under the guise of sending everyone that buys a new car a survey as if what they say matters, they then PUBLISH their shit for free. Consumer Reports, on the other hand, makes their cash by selling the report itself. This makes more sense in my opinion.
