The new Jay-Z is really good IMO. It's not for young folk though. If you like crunk stuff and alotta the crap that's on the radio now-a-days, your not gonna like it. For the reasons most won't like it, those same reason are why I DO like it. Jay's way more laid back on this album and is not depending on hot verses from other rappers or overly produced beats. In fact there is not a single verse from any other rapper on the whole album. You can argue that all Jay talks about is being a CEO and how he's trying to save hip-hop and that he's not hip-hop, but his flow and delivery are so fucking perfect. This isn't one of his best albums, probably somewhere near the bottom. But I must say I need something like this right now to keep my faith in the industry. I'm successful and grown now, and I wanna listen to other successful and grown, more mature rappers. All this cookie cutter shit today is just terrible and unoriginal and offensive. Even to someone who grew up with 2 live Crew spittin lines like "I like the way you like the champagne glass. It makes me wanna stick my d**k in your a**." That's almost subliminal by today’s standards. I'm terrible at writing reviews, but go get it if you're looking for something a lil different.

Good article. Everyone is asking has Jay outgrown his audience. I'm living proof that he hasn't outgrown everyone. I've been a Jay-Z fan since 96. I mean a die hard fan. He's only 3 years older then me and I see ourselves at similiar points in our lives (though he has a couple bucks more then me). Jay's grown up and so have I. He's like last of the ols school type MC's to me.

I also picked up The RE-UP and I like it.. I just hope Em doesnt let all these other rappers influence him to much. I mean he was on tv with a rag around his head like he is some gangsta... cmon em.. bring back SLIM SHADY!

About Jay-Z, never been a fan but friends keep hyping him and so I check out every new album and fail to see/hear what others do. This last album is no exception. I do like some of his songs overall but nothing to get crazy excited about.

Got Eminem and Gwen Stefani albums but haven't gotten around to checking them out yet.

Doubts Jay-Z's talent but bought a Gwen Stefani album? Riiiiiight...

A spec how do you liek Dr's Advocate? Theres a few decent tracks but it seems the whole album is him repeating a few things.. how theres no beaf.. how he went broke.. and how " he's the doctors advocate " it got old the first time i listened to the cd al the way through so I have yet to put it back in.

Yeah, the new Gwen has yet to interest me...Pharrell produced but that's about as much as she's got going so far from the tracks I've heard. I think Fergie makes better bangers than her at the moment.

I feel bad though, cause everyone be hating on Gwen these days, but I think she's doing her thing and crafting herself into a serious brand / icon and getting out there so much love to that. That Sound of Music track though, ehhhh.....I dunno

As far as Doctor's Advocate, I'm guess I'm just a west coast guy (a SOCAL west coast guy haha), when I first put the album in I thought it was insane, straight fire. If I had to play devil's advocate (pardon the pun), I could definitely pick apart reasons why the album isn't very good (in comparison to The Documentary) and whatnot (repetitive, too many references, etc). The reason that it's kinda repetitive is because a lot of the tracks on this album were mixtape songs (DJ SKEE!) that were hot enough for them to put on the album.

But as far as the album goes, I had the album in my deck 2 weeks straight, listened to it to and from work, and I still listen to it so I like it. The Kanye track is pretty bananas (and funny), for sure that's gonna get stupid mainstream play. Then again I like anything The Game spits on so I'm a bit biased (see: "Certified Gangstas" w/ Jim Jones). And he reps the WEST COAST, soooo....biased biased biased

One Blood has got to be the banger of the year, I cannot get sick of it.

I can easily go from track 1 to 16 on the Game album, but if I had to choose the top 5 songs I'm feeling:

1) Track 5 - Remedy
2) Track 16 - Why You Hate The Game (f. Nas & Floetry)

I sure miss that stuff too. It's because systems aren't as popular as they used to be. Back in HS, to be fresh, all you needed was a 86 Cutty Supreme with some big ass woofers in the trunk, and maybe some Players spinning or maybe a Bonneville SSEI with some Dayton's on that bitch. Your car didn't have to be $50g's, with 28" rims, and TV's mounted on teh frame rails. Oh how I long for those days...

I've listened to Jay-Z's album and wasn't impressed.
Haven't listened to her's yet. I doubt I'll like it any more or less than Jay's.
It's because of her work in No Doubt that I'm curious to giver her new album a try.
If I had to spend money, I doubt I would have gotten either.

Mano, Werd is right. IMO, being the huge Jay-Z fan that i am, Reasonable Doubt and Blueprint are his 2 best albums. His early stuff has an alltogether different feel from his new stuff (though I'd consider Blueprint to be newer). In my Lifetime is crazy hot and so is Hard Knock Life. What so fresh about him is that he started so much shit. yea, he likes to remind us that he starts trends, but shit so would I. Platinum, did not exist around rappers before Jay-Z. As he puts it, "I was wearin Platinum, when all ya'll cats thought it was silver. I was drinkin Christall when all ya'll chicks thought is was beer and shit". "Money Ain't a Thang" started people flossin, period. Yea, yea, before that people drove 'Lacs, on some 17, but when that song came out it set a new standard of how to ball. Everyone followed and the game changed. Now he's evolving again, saying that he's "grown enough not to put rims one it". I wouldn't be suprised if you start seeing some rappers changing their tune and tryin to look more grown. Jay's changed the game time and time again...

I'm not too crazy bout Games constant flip flopping and all the subliminals but some of the stuff he says is cool/funny. Album was way too repetitive though, low replay value for me. Game gets attention cause he picks catchy beats but his subject matter is just redundant no substance no rewinds. He came hard compared to Jay & Snoop but I doubt ppl will talk about it for years to come.

BTW anyone check Jay's new vid? He really meant it when he said he a bully w/ the bucks..

Anyone here listen to Common? its very hard to pick a favorite song but "The Light" is probably top on the list. My Fav Rap/HH/RnB artists are:

I think the 80's would be my second favorite music genre. Is anyone with me? There are so many unique catchy songs that put a smile of my face. There were a lot of one hit wonders but Michael Jackson always put out great songs. My favorites are the aformentioned Billie Jean, PYT, Don't stop till you get enough and Wanna be startin something.

Ive always like rock but just not what its become recently. Im a big fan of Third Eye Blind, Nickelback, Pearl Jam, Audioslave/Soundgarden, Rage and Metallica in their prime among others.

no hard feelings bro.. it was jsut funny to hear Jay Z and Gwen stefani in the same conversation. Everyone is entitled to there own likes and dislikes... and I would never intrude on that. I liek many many diff types of music.. but with Gwen... she went from one side to the other.. complete polar opposite of what her music used to be.. let it be that she never go to do what she always wanted.. or she figured out what wil fill her piggy bank.. I cant be the judge of that.

A spec i feel ya... Its really nice to get good tracks from a west coast artist. With Pac gone Dre working on everything BUT HIS OWN stuff and this retarded bay area movement theres been a serious lackof quality music comin from the left coast. I DEFF AGREE with you on the Kanye track.. its pretty hot. I also iek most of the otehr tracks you mentioned minus the One Blood track... I just dont feel that great about it. Maybe after a few more plays it will get better haha.

I would like add or reiterate (if someone has already mentioned it), the first N.E.R.D. album, No One Ever Really Dies. This is one of my top 5 favorite albums of all time. It was a total sleeper when it came out. You also cannot be put in any single genre categories. You'd have better luck trying to have a threesome with Jessica Alba and Beyonce. It’s just awesome. If you’re a rock, rap, funk, soul fan you’ll like this. If you’re a country fan, you’ll probably wanna pass.

You guys got to give the Damian Marley - Welcome to Jamrock album a listen. I really slept on this one, but man the production is perfect with the deep pounding Jamaican bass, and the rhyme is on point. The track with Nas is good too. I've given it 2 listens all the way through and I really like it.
