There are several types of metal 3d printing now too... cost prohibitive and not strong enough to use on engine parts though. As far as I know right now it's mainly being used for custom architectural features (like cabinet pulls, faucet handles, etc.) Hopefully in the future we will have the ability to do one off engine parts this way though.
OP let me know if you want it printed small scale if you don't have access to a printer. I have a desktop printer and would love to print one for myself too... |

finished the left side and the back of the head. i know the back is wrong but i would have to redo a lot of stuff to make things fit properly and i was bored.
i can't find any decent photos of the thing behind the chain tensioner, its a thingy with a couple of coolant hoses...anybody got any photos or what's its name? building the oil pan now, too bored to make the rear end of the engine. also, photos of a dismantled s14/15 manifold are welcome! especially around the injector area

The fact that you're doing this by eye is amazing, I wouldn't even know where to start.
Think you could share the one paragraph version of how you go about doing this?

thanks. well, i have made my share of mistakes , some because when googling for reference photos you never know what you re gonna get. so i mistakenly made the intake runners on the head from an s13 (highport) and some other things. the ones i caught, i fixed. anyway, instead of writing you how i do it, how about this:

actually i have a dash in my balcony, and a 3d scanner i made myself, i wanted to use 3d data from the dash to make a custom gauge pod but i havent gotten around it.
i ve been making dash pods for a while with fiberglass etc, but thats a time consuming and dirty work. i'm too old for this sh*t ...time to have it printed for me. then just some finishing work and its gonna be ready for molding. with 3d printing you can even have the leather grain of the dashboard to match (well, just a little bit of polishing , will be needed)

I think you're talking about the Idle Air Control Valve or IACV. There's plenty of images of that online, now that you know it's name...

I shed a tear when I laid my eyes on these photos. This is a work of art, words can't describe the level of detail on these models. It's also refreshing to see how nice the engine came from the dealer. All I can imagine is opening up the hood of a brand new s14 and seeing this.
