If I'm gonna buy a Porsche, it's gonna be a 911 Turbo or GT2. Sure the Cayman is a nice car but for that price I'd rather buy an extremely low-mileage C5 Z06 and have some money left over to throw into it. If not, then a C6 Z06. Yeah their interior doesn't compare to anything by Porsche but I'm not complaining. New seats and some other interior refreshments can change all that. Hell, I could also get a Z4 M Coupe and throw some money into that instead....even though I hate Chris Bangle's designs.

And I thought the Boxster was the slowest in their lineup?

As a status symbol or a panty dropper Porsche is the clear winner.

I care more about bang for my buck though. And I don't need a car as a panty dropper, so....
this is me feeling aswell. but a true panty dropper from porshe is the gt1!

IM going to buy a 911 in a couple years, but im not sure what model, 968, 993, or 996. As long as its in great shape, I don't really care.

anyway, you can get a collector car loan with a low interest rate (cheaper than a normal car loan) and get collector car insurance (waaaay cheaper than normal insurance). As long as the car doesn't break, it will be cheaper and way cooler than a new 350z. But you won't be able to daily drive it.

IMO the fun could be bought for much less and isn't worth the $70k that my friend payed for it. That's not including the paranoia of driving a new blood red Porsche on the streets. Reminded me of when I had my s14 haha

Anyway, feel free to post any comments from similar experiences.

Edit My bad it's spelled Cayman

the gayman is overpriced but girls dig it... girl's don't dig fast cars that don't have an expensive goochi er.... porsche/ferrari/etc emblem on it so he paid 70k to make the girls go oooweee assuming he's not married.

i guess also he paid 70k for a street legal fast car too so.

lol the carrera gt is awesome. you really have to sit there and just stare at the car for like 30 minutes to really admire all the little things about the car. of course still going for 300+k used is pretty crazy. old porsches are pretty expensive. we had a 97, with like 19k miles and i think it sold some where in the upper-20's low 30's iirc. which is pretty crazy for a 10 year old car.
by-the-way when you get in a c6 or c5 and get in a porsche there's still quite a bit of difference. dont get me wrong, i love vettes probably the only newer american car i would ever even think of buying. that being said they just dont feel as sure footed as a carrera does. vettes are awefully fast and would undoubtably beat a carrera in a straight line any given day, but they're just arent as nimble. dont seem as fun to drive. they are a blast and as soon as you hit the pedal you instantly feel the surge of power from the motor(c6). i dont know. i think it's just maybe after you drive them basically every day you just kinda end of loving them.

that's my own personal opinion.

I learned a long time ago that girl's opinions on anything auto related is worthless.

Why is your car so loud?

Why is your car so low?

Why is your car so rough to ride in?

Why don't you drive a gay suv of some sort?

i'd buy an aston over a porsche, anyday... plus james bond never drove a porsche, further more, while porsches are really fun to drive, i can't stand having a autobon car in LA TRAFFIC..... so to further assist my "posh LA style" i have to get an aston, i just need to figure out how the door handle works....

I love the 944 Turbo's also. I considered buying one a few years back. They're hard to mod I've read though. Also the tranny is in the back?? What's that about?

ugh....944. That's what I had before I got my 240. It was the MOST unreliable car I had. EVAR. I call it the $700 car wash because everytime something broke it cost at LEAST $700. But they always washed my car after they fixed it.

Within the first 2 weeks of owning it the electrical system went haywire, then the ring and pinion broke. Then the front bearing seized and the wheel broke off while I was driving.

Granted I bought it used with $30k miles, but damn.

On a positive note, I used to get dreamy looks from all kinds of chicks and it handled really well. When it wasn't in the shop.

anyway, you can get a collector car loan with a low interest rate (cheaper than a normal car loan) and get collector car insurance (waaaay cheaper than normal insurance). As long as the car doesn't break, it will be cheaper and way cooler than a new 350z. But you won't be able to daily drive it.
I don't recommend a 968-model 911 because it's not a 911. It's the very latest 944 chassis.

The newer they get, the better they get. 996s are easier to drive than 993s, 993s are easier than 964s, 964s are easier than 930s, and 930s are easier than 911s.

I've driven a variety of Porsches from '68-97, and I much prefer the newer ones to the older ones. However, I much prefer working on the older ones than the newer ones.

Can you please elaborate on the fixing part?

I know the older (air cooled) 911's had solid lifters and need valve adjustments every 30000 miles. If you don't know how to do it expect to pay ~$500 each time.

depending on condition, 964's ( like 79-85) can be had for under 15. there was one i was looking at for 14,500 at a dealer, it was a 82, 80k, leather, lowered, exhaust and this is what it looked like.

I restore air-cooled Porsches. I'd rather work on a pre-smog 911 than a smog-equipped 911, a smog-equipped 911 than a 930, etc.

The newer they get, the better they drive (better pedal placement, better shift linkage, better transmission, less irritability, better ride, able to fit wider tires) but the more complicated they become. The later engines are also much heavier.

Valve adjustment is easy as hell. $20 in "specialty" tools and Bob's your uncle.
