Would you join? (New car forum)
This isn't spam, but if it offends the Mod's/Admin feel free to close this
Anyway, Well, a friend and I have been debating on whether we should make a car forum. If theres a lot of interest (its going to be people from nico, 240sxforums, zilvia.net, mr2oc, mr2board and here) and other boards such as mazda and subaru boards. It will be called ImportOwnersClub.com, yes a .com domain. For all you tech people, it will be run on apache server on my Linux Fedora based server PC. If theres enough interest here and through out the other forums, i will be opening it up and be looking for mods, if not, then it was a decent thought The site will be mainly a preludepower (not copying it though) but have the addition of other cars. Such as Nissan, toyota and honda with subforums such as 240sx,300zx etc. Just gauging interest. |

Eh, to make a forum that gains a following is very difficult
And there's a ton of forums out there already Find a niche that doesnt already have a forum and then go from there

lol, we'll have to arrange that later on. when the sr20 gets in and if the site gets made, merchandise, few contests and give away parts may be a few of the things that will be done to promote.

I rather join a forum with a very specific topic or kind of car. That way you get an abundant amount of information on that certain topic than very generalized information on many different topics or cars you might not care for. However, on the same note I would join a car forum designed for all FR sports cars or a forum dedicated to only awd sport cars. That way you get many different views only a topic you still care about.
To say "ImportOwners" sounds like a hotspot for ricers around the world. A bright red and yellow FF flag if you will. Also consider the fact that the line between import and domestic is blurring more and more each year. So to say this site is only for Imports is to cut off people who own cars like the GTO, the soon to be Demon, the Sky, and the Solstice. And lastly consider the audience you will have. By mixing FR/FF car guys together your site will most likely have a large increase in the flaming that will take place. Do you have that kind of time to constantly monitor and baby sit the site if it does become popular? Good luck with whatever you decide but if I were you I would capitalize on the new wave of cheap sports cars that are about to be released and make a car forum specifically for one of them. Such as a forum for the new Toyota/Subaru entry sports car... Now that I would join. |

I would've never thought that VWVortex or Supraforums would have been popular, but they became two HUGE boards
So eh just make it and see who comes out to play If it works it does, if not then oh well Main thing is that you did it And Irvine is a dope city to live in I grew up in the mean streets of Hawaii lol

I dunno... there are a couple sites like that (JDMChat.com) but they're not a balanced group. People are pretty loyal to their 'clicks.' What I'd like to see is a site dedicated to happenings in the car scene (shows, cruises, track days, etc.) broken down by local areas.

Well all i can say is, being that i run a forum myself, its very hard as everyone or majority says. Its all about marketing, advertising, promoting etc. Its not easy thats for sure. If all goes well, then so be it, but being there is so many forums out there its hard not to do "what everyone is doing".
But I'm trying though, im still keep holdin strong and anytime I do hear people startin stuff, i let them know, its hard, but it can be done and refer Zilvia.net to them even in Texas. |

Only interesting is that I could have one forum for all my cars.
But it isn't really worth it. Too many 240 kids will be butt hurt in that section. The honda section will be post whored to death. Mr2 owners tend to be more about vanity. Like when I posted a, "Show me the cut off of your hid's", and all I got were people telling me how blue it was... Miata's are primarily old people so they don't like change. I suggest choosing just one car and or forum topic and work from there.

Our forum has a pretty wide variety of ff / fr cars from different groups and we really don't get alot of flame wars going on. Most of the posts are blog related type posts and its more of a community, and we leave it to sites like this one for technical write ups.
