KA24de Rattle
So I have the infamous chain rattle. I pulled the valve cover off and both of my guides have already been removed from the previous owner, I pulled my PS and water pump belt off so it's not any of my pulleys and it's definitely at the top front of the engine. The only thing I can think of is the timing chain tensioner...would a stuck tensioner still make a slapping noise when the valve cover is off?

My car had the same noise and it ended up being cylinder 1 bearing was just worn enough to knock. Slapped in new bearings and she still runs strong as fuck and quiet. KA-T setup on 10psi.

It sounds too light to be a knock, but I will pull the first plug and see if it still makes noise.
I'm sorry I mispoke in the original post it's a literal rattle not slapping. |

It's actually fairly easy just pull the valve cover off and you can get the top guide it's just two bolts. and pull the front cover off(make sure to put the engine TDC and mark your distributor before removing the timing cover) and the second guide is on the right with two bolts as well.

Could be water pump bearing. Had one I think was going bad on a DE and it made a funny rattling like noise. Could also be a cylinder coming down with something as mentioned.
Also, I thought just one guide needed removed? Or is that just SOHC? |
