Question S14 sr20det a/f ratios bipolar help!!!

Ok I recently rebuilt my s14 sr I got everything new in it and it was running fine. I just installed the split fire coil pack set up, aem wide band eugo a/f ratio gauge and aem try boost gauge. It was all running fine untill all of a sudden the a/f ratios started tripping out first it was rich as hell 10-11.5 the car was bogging and dying out and that lasted about the day and the night came and it was lean as hell all of a sudden 15-16.5 at idle but while driving it would richen up to about 12-14 and now it's just staying lean as hell at idle 15 + and staying about the same while driving wtf could it be?

Boost leak or exhaust leak before the turbo. My afrs have been doing that because my exhaust mani was leaking....just some ideas lol.

I checked for any vac leaks didn't find and no exhaust leakes that I'm aware of. I'm kind of guessing it might be the mafs, when I unplug it the a/f ratio goes back to rich 10-10.5 but once I plug it in the car Boggs, dies, and goes back up to 15+ what could it be? I currently have 1300miles on the motor if any one was wondering ?

Idk sounds like it can be anythimg. Id say check and rule out anything obvious - plugs, injectors, coils (even if new), maf, check all couplings by taking them all off, see if bov is not leaking. Just keep checking and you will find it. Gl and post back results.

i checked bov its good, checked vac lines no leaks, i took the mafs of and cleaned it with carb cleaner? the coils are the split fire set up i took um off and put them back on no problems to be seen, all connections good too out plugs and cleaned them with carb cleaner also? i just ordered the walbro fuel pump set up, detchworks 550 injectors, gm 3bar map sensor, and just waiting on the aem v2 ecu to get to the distributors so i can order i hope all this helps once i get it tuned ?

No dude. You want the car running before you tune it. That problem wont magically go away unless its one of the parts you are replacing. Tuner will probably charge you an arm and a leg to diagnose it. I bet its something real simple that is being overlooked.

Hmmm I really don't know what I should check that would cause this because it just happend out of no where for no reason I wasn't getting on it or woting it out I just got in it and drove 2miles home after work and bam about an hour later jumped in it to head to sonic to grab a burger lol and bam it's rich as hell pegging the 10's on the gauge bogging down and dying out Wtf??? Got to sonic turned it off, ate, and started it up to leave and bam lean as hell peging the 15's and all this is at idle. when its on the 10's and i drive it it leans out to about 11-12's but when it's lean and being driven it richens up to about 13's-14's??? And now it's just staying at the 15's so I bought some Lucas octain booster threw it in and now it's running at 14's at idle and 12'-13's while driving. ??? I was thinking of checking all the wiring, connectors and vac lines again??? Let's see if I find any thing? Somthing like this would more than likely be electrical or some kind of leak exhaust, boost, or vac correct?

Is your bov vented? Try putting the stock ignition back on to narrow your search.

the 2 wires on the left that connect to the big grey wire

the grey wire just goes up to here

you can see it at the back right corner of the motor

i just checked compression today all cylinders are at close to 120 which is low i know but it idles fine and runs fine except for the a/f ratio issue. i checked the fuel pressure its at 42psi when the system is charged at the key on position, 42psi at idle, and 52psi at the highest i seen under a load "driving" at about 60-70mph in 4th gear i couldnt find any thing wrong that would cause this. i also put back my oem coil packs it did the same shit! turned off the tru boost so it runs on waste gate spring pressure and still no change i dont know what else to check??? aqny ideas???

I bet it's those wires. Rewire that crap. Is that solder i see right at the connector? Exposed like that? Damn. Figure out where the wires go and redo them properly. If that is not a solution at least it's going to prevent problems down the line.

Na man I just ordered a whole new motor and tranny harness from wiring specialties I how it helps, but the wires were covered I just took the tape off to see what was under there and that's what I found a HACK JOB! But I was wondering of anyone knew where the wires on the far left go to? Because they connect to that thick grey wire and it goes no where it's just cut any ideas?

ok this is what i got so far, no vac leaks, no exhaust leaks, new walbro 255lph pump installed still no difference still lean. i checked my oil, smelt it, and it reeks like gas it even burnt a little when i put a lighter to it. i changed it and about 30 mins after oil change smells and burns again im guessing i may have a or some leaky injectors im going to check them tomorrow, i have some new 550's just came in thinking of slapping them on i know it will run rich with them installed but i hope that kills the issue. i am also thinking of getting it checked out on an oscilloscope tomorrow before switch out anything else, and see what it has to say, i will post the results.

Just put the new engine harness no differance still hmmm I was thinking if it could possibly be the coolant temp sensor? Is it used to give the ecu a temp reading so it can change the a/f ratio? Or could it be the mafs? And since there is gas in my oil could it possibly be that I have a leaky injector and it's leaking down into the crank case and the fumes are recirculating up on to the head through the Pcv valve or other hoses and making the o2 think it's running rich and that's why it's leaning out? Anyone ever have an issue like this?

Wow. This is a tough one. Did you change the injector o-rings? I never reuse them, my uncle always told me to get new ones because old ones usually roll when u put them back in. A bit of a gas smell in the oil is normal but if it reaks like gas you have a problem. Did u do a compression test? I dont recall reading that but may be try swapping one of your injectors with another oem injector too.

I never took the injectors out so I'm not sure what condition the o rings are in, I have some new 550cc injectors for the car I'm just gonna put them on once mt aem ecu comes in and get it tuned and see what that does

But if that is not the problem, you won't be able to tune unless the AEM can pinpoint that problem for you.

Only other suggestion i can give - check everything again, make sure you use proper methods (no visual inspections) and get a buddy or two to stop by for beers so they can take a look. Ive learned that a second set of eyes is always helpful.

Thanks I looked again no luck, but I do know that the coolant temp sensor gives readings to the ecu that can possibly change a/f ratios so I bought a new one it's on it's way let's see what that does.

What about your maf? May be try swapping that if you can get your hands on one.
