Free flowing exhaust without the "Ricer" sound
I am going the N/A route on my '95 S14. I am trying to find a top notch exhaust that will flow well without having the silly braaaaaaap exhaust note. This is going to be a dd and weekend warrior type build. No racing just enjoying the roads through the Ozarks/Ouachita mountains. Any suggestions? Price isn't as much a factor as the performance of the system.

Either swap it for something turbo or build it for boost. |

I like the sound of my KA for the record. I like how it doesn't sound like a 2.0 and that it makes loud popping sounds when I lift.
to the OP....all KA's sound the same, louder or quieter....i've ran stock/muffler/straightpipe/ no pipe.....and still the straigt pipe sounds the throatiest......no pipe sounds like a race car...haha. |

Custom 3"
Get yourself a decent Magnaflow muffler, and pick whatever tip(s) you want coming out the back. Then just have your local exhaust shop fab it up for you. I recommend adding a resonator (bullet style muffler) between the cat and the muffler, to help with the tone. Check the exhaust Thread in Chat for more options. http://zilvia.net/f/chat/122545-post...end-shots.html

Why not? Care to enlighten us?
Edit: Someone please post that old dyno sheet that was posted on FreshAlloy where the guy actually gained power from a 3" on an NA KA. Last edited by Homer_Simpson; 08-28-2010 at 01:59 AM.. |

please tell me that you are running fully built NA at least. running stock NA KA with 3 inch is a stupidest thing, you will loose power. Why? Do yourself some reading and you will know why.
But in the end you will thing to yourself "why the fuck didn't i do FI instead of wasting money to do NA?" when you got laughed in the face from a guy just smoked you. Please leave the NA to muscle cars would you.

I'm thinkinging of having an aluminum exhaust made with dual resonators to drown out some of the sound, I have an N1 style catback right now that measured 10db over the california legal limit and I want to have a legit exhaust so I stop getting pulled over by cops with nothing better to do.

lol If you guys don't know why a 3 inch straight thru exhaust for an NA engine is a bad thing, wow.
You will almost DEFINITELY lose power with that setup. That's some ricer shit lol. |

How do you lose power by going to a bigger catback?
it's so far down the pipe i dont think scavenging will matter. Large primaries maybe, but seeing as you'll make more power without the catback than with it, i don't think having a bigger one will matter.

Why do you think 2.5 inch and 3" exhausts exist? 3 inch is for turbo, as it's more free flowing. With a NA engine, you should have back pressure which is why you use a smaller 2.5 inch exhaust. You CAN put a 3 inch exhaust on your KA, but it will have negative side effects.. if your doing it just for looks.. or sound, sounds pretty rice to me. Get a 2.5 inch exhaust and call it a day.

Yes its extra super f'ing loud(3" d/p, test pipe & 3" exhaust). You lose some low end but it pulls nice when you are beating on it. I almost miss it. I needed the FI anyways.

in my experience, 3" on a KA is earbleed loud. the gains are so minimal, i don't understand why people argue about it. it doesn't really matter. just decide if you want to go deaf listening to your 155hp engine or not, then decide on your piping diameter.

My old S13 with RSR Ex-Mag, DC Sports headers, 248/248 cam set up, and no cat.
Close up of RSR+DC Sports Header video by ArticDragon192 - Photobucket My Car :: Dyno2 video by ArticDragon192 - Photobucket And the power it made Yes it was loud, but I had an Apexi ECV to control the volume when I was putting around on the street. |
