Help!
Hey Guys,
I know this isn't Nissan related however my wifes car is making some serious noises after hitting a large pothole yesterday. It's a loud knocking noise coming from the front right wheel on a Honda CRV Sport 2002 (4x4). It's inaudible below 10kmph but after that the knock increases with speed. It almost sounds like a steam train at 60kmph! I don't have any of my tools with me which makes diagnosing this a little difficult. I pulled the front right wheel off last night and tried to inspect however without a breaker bar I wasn't able to get the ball joints to move and couldn't see anything suspect. I did notice a few bushes were sagged and a leaky engine mount but I don't think they're related. I also tried to twist the wheel after I jacked up the car and there was no play, I also checked the front drive shafts and both had little play. This one has me a little stumped. Any advise would be greatly appreciated, fingers crossed I don't need to drive this car 2000km home to work on it! Thanks! |

When you checked for play with the wheel up, did you check for play both side to side and up and down?

Sounds like a CV axle to me, my Hyundai Elantra made the same sound. Check the boots to make sure they're not torn and haven't started spitting their insides out.

Thanks for the reply, I replaced the half shaft assembly (inc CV) last night and the problems solved I'm pretty surprised only 2 people offered help despite how many views this topic received. Thanks to the both of you, but very saddened this community is dying off |
