Has anyone heard of the Nissan Mid4?

I'd read about it at supercars.net, and thought it was a fairly koo concept, that woulda competed well against the MR2.

But today i found this...

The Mid4-II...damn that thing looks nice...less than 3100lbs, Mid engined 330hp AWD Twin Turbo (VG30DETT)... 0-60 in the 4 second range....pretty quick for a late 80's mobile...

Anywho, I wish Nissan had actually built this...although I kind of see why they didn't, producing two supercars (This and GTRs) would be too much...Although the concepts were LHD...so this, unlike the GTR, would probably have had a better chance of seeing a U.S. release....coulda/woulda been direct competition with the NSX....it'd probably be in the same price range no?

It's cool but it really looks like an NSX or Fararri(sp) rip-off. Of course the NSX may have come along after this design.

I posted about it acouple monthes ago, no one cared then &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> &nbsp; It was designed in like 1986/87? so i doubt the styling was influenced by the NSX <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sigh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

When was the NSX's first year? I'm sure it was in '90-ish. I still think it is really similar to a Ferrari.

it looks nice and would be great, but doesn't some lotus (ZZII i think) come with an RB26 and its M4. Or did that car get a swap. I think it has been posted before. It was a blue lotus.

Side Note: Yay i got 200 posts.

That was a Tommy Kaira ZZII, and yeah it used a Mid engined RB26DETT.

I think their other ZZ used a SR.

we'll have to put this somewhere next to Nissan's rotary engine in terms of ideas that should have been pushed :-P

That's a hell of a car though, I'd LOVE to have one of those sitting in my garage. I plan to be rich some day. Maybe I can buy one of the prototypes from the owner (or launch a massive plan with the greatest crime bosses ever to steal it, hehe)

I remember when they brought that concept out. Every damn Nissan fanatics jaw dropped.
rumor has it they decide not to actually produce the car for two reasons and I would guess a third.
First two reasons are the car was going to cost in 70-80K range here in the states. Territory, Nissan had never explored in U.S. Also remember this was pre NSX. Also the NSX flopped miserably in sales for the first couple of years it was out. hell I remember being able to get a 92 NSX from my friends brother who worked at a Porsche dealer in Palo Alto for $25k wholesale.(I knew I should have bought that car <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> )
Second reason , they were still building and selling 300zx Z31's
. Even the Skyline at that point in time had not fully reached Supercar status i.e. this was pre R32.
Third and this is were rumor sets in . It was to close to the design of several existings Ferrari's and they would have been sued by Ferrari and don't think Ferrari might not have done that. Ferrari, was sue happy in the 80's after Enzo died. They actually did sue a Ferrari GTO knock off company that was basing dead look alike GTO's on early Z cars.
who knows, but at this time it does not matter that was over ten years ago.

Is it possible that this car influenced the body styling of the S13 fastback? I mean, it was designed just a year or two before the fastback's birth, and to me it just flat out looks like a S13 f/b on steroids.

Shit....half the cars on the road right now are some bastardized version of a Pininfarina body style (designer for Pantera, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin etc.) The Pinifarina history is actually pretty interesting. You have to have Acrobat reader to look at the Pininfarina Collection / History of cars.

Pininfarina's Website

hey Lance , never thought about it but you might be on to something here . I mean the s13 hatch body stylings are definitely taken from a variety of influences like Pininfarina
which the mid4 took from directly.
I do see the similarities in the hatch . &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>
