As for everyone on here shrugging this off and making fun of the thread creator, it may not be as serious as he makes it sound to be, but at the same time there is probably something to it. No radiation from Japan will kill anyone here, as chances are it would most likely just manifest itself in a slight increase of women miscarrying and kids being born with birth defects. And as entertaining as it is to joke about microwaves causing cancer, they are definitely not healthy. |

While it may not be a significant concern in car parts due to the small amount of volume, it is a very real concern for everything America imports. In today's world, manufacturing is global and it is a scary thought to have radiation leakage in products. Same goes with the small traces of lead. The radiation levels pumping out at that nuclear plant are scary and there is fall out, just not in America at this time. Thanks for bringing up the subject and hopefully there are more educated responses as it is a good topic for discussion.

I agree with the IDK. Keep in mind Nissan is regulated, these small market shipments aren't necessarily checked.

Well the reports are from the UN I read back a couple of months, were that radiation were roughly double than what was originally reported. Its definitely far worse than what people thought. I traveled to Tokyo like last month, it wasn't a real big deal and life at least in the areas not affected have been moving right along, but you do see telecasts about people that are still affected and its heart wrenching. Most can't move back to areas they used to live and they are living in like government shacks, but they are making due....
Sad but still a tough time in Japan. Truthfully most parts that come out of Japan that are used are from Osaka or Tokyo auctions which chop cars up and sell them to the US. Not much stuff up North, so parts are pretty much radiation free. BBC News - Japan 'unprepared' for Fukushima nuclear disaster

Oh noes I better be careful my singer is Japanese and from Tokyo she might cast radiation on me. LOL Seriously. Matej has a point about the radiation level standards here vs Europe.
As far as Japan goes, yes in fact there is a problem in areas right around Fukishima though in Tokyo? Not at this point. in parts coming here? LOL ya right. Like others have said, the major car company's would be checking there stuff and the used parts tend to come from Tokyo and more southern regions. As far as it affecting us here? No, the radiation that did get released was in the localized regions and due to the distance of the U.S. from Japan it would have no effect on us.
