I had allstate for a long time until I was hit by a drunk driver. It was the drunk's fault. When I called my insurance company to ask them what I should do (first wreck after 10yrs of driving) They asked if I was at fault, then when I said no, they wouldn't help me anymore because I only had liability. They wouldn't even give me any advice. I understand that they aren't required to, but you would think after almost 10yrs of seeing them and chatting every month when I payed my policy in person they would atleast advise me to get a lawyer or something. So I switched to geico when I got my next car.

^What are you paying a month? I have been with AAA, not bad at all.... decent customer service, but I honestly feel like switching over to someone else who can beat my premium of $85.00. Its only liability, with 20 miles of towing. Any recommendations guys?

I pay like $65/mo with geico. Never got a quote for the zenki on allstate... but I was paying $67/mo on my 1995 4.0 ranger with allstate.

21stcentury insurance here.

I have a 07 350z and 89 Toyota Pick up.
350z has full coverage
Toyota pick up has only liability

I pay $800 for 6 months (or 4 payments of $200)
I'm 26 and never had a ticket or anything.

I feel like I'm getting gouged/raped on my pricing.

Backstory:

So for about 3-4 years I have been insuring my autos with State Farm. Little more expensive at about $125 a month, ever since I was a teenager livin with my parents, I just signed on because it was easy and I could give my dad cash every month. About 2.5 years ago in 2010 my license was suspended for a few months. Took the bus, bummed rides, no harm no foul.

Moved to AZ after I quit a job, got a valid AZ license. Moved back to Oregon and driving around with that. Stupid I know but I had to get around somehow. (license was availed for DMV reinstatement but no time with new job)

Parents split, and both parents got new insurance policy's. Figured it was time to be on my own, so I did some research, called around and found out Geico was lowest at $113 a month. Signed on, two months on so far no problem.

Was driving my car around town and got pulled over for some stupid tag visibility deal, issued a fixit ticket. The officer also wanted me to switch license to my home state. Ok cool whatever. Fixed the issue, police officer inspected my license and tags, good to go no driving record issue recorded.

Then last week I got the strangest letter in the mail. Geico found out my license was suspended in 2010, and until I get a valid UTAH license they will cancel my insurance.

Wtf? Never even visited Utah

Called up the customer help line and I explained what was going on. They said the DMV never reinstated my license, but I just showed it to a police officer? And even they didn't know what was going on with the Utah deal. Guy gave
me their fax number and hung up. Next day I tried 6 times to fax them a copy of my license but each time it failed. (yes I had the right number) now I have a week to visit the DMV and see what's going on because I nor geico sure doesn't.

Problem is I work everyday but Sunday when the DMV is closed. Have to request time off to get this straightened out. Cool. If it doesn't work out I'm going to switch back to state farm and pay the little extra a month for better customer service.

Thoughts? Who do you insure with? How much $? Experiences?
Immediately check your credit. You never lived in Utah right? Then if this is going on, then someone might be using your name and SS and got in trouble in Utah.

Anyways, I have progressive. 3 cars with them. I have had nothing but good experiences so far.

Theres a ton of variables that could affect your premium, but just based on being 26 with no tickets your price is pretty high espically with multiple cars...

at what point do you guys think it is better to switch from full coverage to liability? i have a 2003 toyota with about 161,000 on the clock. i would say fair market value on it is between $6,500-7500. should i switch over to liability or wait a few more years when it has over 200,000 on it and worth less than $5,000?

Personally, I love toyota trucks... reliable as hell...

I switched over the liability when I think if I got hit, it would be total lost salvage.

I love AAA, although expensive, they will fight and be the asshole for you. They trust you first and don't make you jump hoops to prove your own case. You pay for the premium insurance. If you want to go cheap 21st is nice and pretty good online website and customer service.

Infinity Insurance. Liability only with higher limits. $56/mo or $704 per year. Just hope I don't actually get into an accident.

Oh, 89 S13.

Ive had AAA for 7 years, no complaints here. Every accident ive been involved in where money was coming to me was quick and painless. My brother, who has a fucked up record, has jumped from cheap insurance place with horrible exp, at each one. Geico, progressive, and has since gone back to AAA.

Well next month is time for me to renew my insurance. My current company (direct) wanted $82 first payment and then $60 for 11 months. Psh. Got a quote from Progressive for $42 a month for 6 months. $219 if paid in full today. Yes please.

Now I don't have to worry about insurance for another 6+ months.

Just got a renewal today. My 2 S13s went up, around $70 for 6 months. No real clue as to why. My G35 went down, having Nationwide investigate and give me a clear explination. May be time to see about getting the S13 Vert as Collector insurance or something.

^^

I've got Mercury.

No complaints with them. Two not at fault accidents a few years back and they handled it no problem.

25yo male, wife is 23, both have Bachelors, clean records, 100/300, 500/500 deductibles, and rental car, for '07 Tacoma and '09 Versa at $1150 every 6 months.

Cheapest of all the reputable places I called.. Get 15% off insurance for our home as well now since it's through Mercury as well which is a little plus.

Yeah never been to Utah. Went to the DMV today and they said insurance companys will use third party credit checks (Lexis nexis in my case) that can be funky (ie inaccurate)

Shitty

DMV faxed my drivers information to geico so everythings straightened out (I hope)

Anymore problems I'm switching

I've had Esurance and USAA. I've never had a bad experience with either but switched to USAA for a cheaper cost.

However I do work at and auto body shop and we do most of Geicos work in town. They almost always try to get away with buying cheap aftermarket parts and often only pay us to paint half of bumpers etc.

Truth, plus it also has a lot to do with your area. Where you live directly affects how much you pay for insurance. Move to MI and see how much it is.

Here is what I tell people.

While having liability does make your insurance cheaper, unless you are tucking that extra money away monthly I don't feel it is worth it. Let me give you three examples.

1. You have a vehicle worth 4500, lets say the salvage percentage in your state is 75% which means 3375 is the threshold for it being totaled. You hit a deer and do 2300 worth of damage to it. With just liability a rather large out of pocket expense unless you have been saving up that money.

With comprehensive coverage pay the deductible (I recommend lowest you can afford) and you are only out 0-500. (yes they can go higher but over $500 is retarded)

2. Keeping the values the same as above picture this. You are sitting at a red light chilling when someone rear ends you. Damage done is $2900 close to the limit but still below being totaled. No prob right? Because it was an not at fault accident you can file with the other insurance company. You make a claim with them only to find out the car was being driven by someone who was not on the policy and the owner of the policy says he did not give them permission so the insurance company denies your claim. Completely legal and standard in the insurance world. With just liability you either have to drop $2900 or sell it to some tow yard for what you can get, which will be FAR below its 4500 value.

3. Keeping the above values, imagine you have an accident that totals your car. With coverage you get the value minus deductible so lets say it comes out to $4000. so you company hands you a 4K check. No you cannot buy a vehicle in the same condition etc all that for 4K but that 4K towards something else. With no coverage you just are out of luck.

Exactly why I have collision and comp on both my vehicles.
