my set up right now is really challenging to drive. NONpower gearbox steering with high angle knuckles comes out to 7 turns lock to lock. even with a gang of shims in the UCA's to add caster i only got about 8.5* and its just not enough.

the weight distribution is tricky too the ass end is always trying to pass you up even when im not drifting...I.E. scca type events and other time attack driving.

and even tho the rear end is super light it still feels really underpowered. runs out of steam mid drift.

so all of this = attacking drifts with i high speed shallow line. (which is not gangster in my book)

hopefully the s13 front suspension and steering and v8 will fix all these things =]


and MAPERFORMANCE i was having a big issue with axle hop in the rear too! i played with the mounting points of all the links, tire sizes, and spring rates and valving. DID NOT FIX ANYTHING!

what did fix it was adjusting the pinion angle. i was at 0* then i kicked the the pinion up 1.5* and the problem went away thank god!

so finally!!! today was the day i got to really tear into the truck, keep in mind at the begin inning of the day this was a complete truck and this was all accomplished in about 7 hours.

so i commenced in tearing down the interior, and removing all the KA wiring (notice the new bars for the cage)



and the KA I ripped out of it that only have 7000 miles on a rebuild lol

and i got the s13 engine crossmember mocked in place (just tacked, will be fully installed tomorrow)





oh and some of the parts from the d21 will live on in this, my newest addition to the family

ok so this is how i decided to mount the s13 clip

i made a set of frame spacers out of 2x4 120 wall and trimmed, bent, and mocked them up heres what they look like



the reason i had to do this is because the s13 clip's mounting holes are a lot wider apart than the stock d21 frame rails. comparison photos



heres the spacers mocked up





had to drill holes through them to mount the crossmember, here it is bolted up... keep in mind the spacers will be fully welded to the frame... i just don't have good pics of it yet.






BTW the s13 steering column bolted right in to the stock mounting behind the dash and lined up perfect with the rack and pinion, ill have pics of that later on

ok so heres how the spacers look welded to the frame



still gonna gusset it more to the frame, the fish plates are 1/4"

and check it out! it bolts/ fits in the stock location, and positioning feels right on the money





thats gonna be it for a little while, i need to start building the motor, and bolt a trans up to it before i start cutting the fire wall and making the new trans x-member

the rear is just a three link it was pretty easy, took me about 20hrs of labor

got the spacers fully welded in and threw a quick shot of paint on them.

got two crossbars welded in for the cage.. just need door bars and shock hoops

got an alternator, power steering pump, oil pick up tube, ignition coil, and a MAF super cheap!


found the trans i need up in compton having a friend scoop it up for me =]

and i did my taxes and found out I'm getting a ton more than i expected!!!! so I'm getting the trans adapter kit a lot sooner than i thought i would =]

thanks guys... and the trans adapter I'm getting is from quantum auto, 1uzfe-w58 w/ steel flywheel kit. doesn't come with a throw out bearing.

so kit= 900+shipping
and throwout bearing= 200+shipping

so i got my heads back from the machine shop and oh boy they look good =]





full 3 angle valve job, resurface, and thorough cleaning.... had to replace 4 valves due to rust and age

so i was up in LA today and tried to scoop up as much crap as i could with my limited cash and came back with some good parts that i needed

mounted the rack and crossmember with the right hardware hopefully for good


stripped out some more wiring and painted the rusty ass metal behind the dash, and mounted the column

so i got a litle sidetracked today and started on the drop spindles for the datsun 620

d22 drop spindles with d21 wheelends


cut out the front crossmember, gonna make a new one with new tc rod brackets.




but i was mocking up the stock lca's and tc rods and noticed a little problem...
they are way to short!!!!! gonna have to make a new set about 9" longer =0






i need to start puttin some of all this crap back into the truck lol

this past weekend was the maiden voyage for the beast, and man it surpassed my expectations big time. not a single problem all day.



the truck seemed to be a crowd favorite which was awesome.




felt so good to be out finally doing what i love. and the truck just worked flawlessly


i had never felt a sense of accomplishment like i did after my first lap. i was at a loss for words and i probably looked like a 10 year old kid on christmas morning.


only casualty was a flare popped off, and one of my idler pulleys is going bad i think.
