Rebuildability seems like a high priority when coilover shopping, so I thought collecting some info on it would be a good idea, instead of asking "are those rebuildable? in the usa? how much? per corner? can i get fries with that? garlic fries, bitch, not regular fries!"

So here I'll start off with what I found researching for my own coilovers, and people can chime in. Please try to keep it organized and follow the same format as best as possible, for readability. Mods handle however they deem appropriate; editing or deleting as necessary.

I'll look for Silk Road, I think MA-Motorsports is the distributor but i'm not sure.

Ohlins...i'll search, but who has ohlins? like 2 people?

JIC, Tanabe, Silk Road do not mention rebuilding on their website. I'll give 'em a call tomorrow if i have time, or if anyone knows they can post here.

Ohlins usa, just google it and you can find the USA/north american distributor
other searches i think their dirt bike stuff is like $85 to rebuild, but i only glanced at it

Silk Road:
No U.S. rebuildability, BUT any Silk Road dist. can send parts and have them replaced/rebuilt within literally a week shipped EMS. Silk Road Japan is FAST on service.

Cusco:
no U.S. rebuildability either, but usually stuff gets sent to Bozz Performance (West Coast), or Nukabe (Midwest). Stuff takes 1-2 months depending on parts/sevice type.

Tanabe:
no U.S. rebuildability YET, maybe, but they send off their parts too. 1-2 months depending on parts/service type.

GP Sports:
no U.S. rebuildability, U.S. dist. sends off parts to Japan for service/parts rebuild too. 1-2 months.

I've owned at least 1 coilover (Silk Road RMA8/Cusco Comp Zero 2/Tanabe Sustec Pro DD/Gp Sports GR6) from every manufacturer i posted above and had stuff rebuilt/replaced.

My DD's didnt need a rebuild, but i had to get a couple parts replaced recently from when i broke a single coilover from a small accident. Maybe i should have clarified that. Turn around time for replacement parts were fairly quick, a rebuild would have taken a little longer. Unless i paid $$$$$ extra to have it air shipped.

I bought a damper to replace my blown one in April and they said they will warranty it as long as I still have my receipt. Note sure how long the warranty last though. The guys there have always been polite and great to deal with. I think they just started rebuilding their coilovers lately, like I said, I had to buy a replacement in April. I guess I'm going to have a spare now incase another does blow.

My Alignment shop broke the adjustment knobs off my tein flex's and here's some updated info

Tein Rebuilding Place is in Cali.
Took mine 1.5 weeks for rebuild. UPS ground there and back total 1 month.
$125 for base rebuilding + Fixing Adjustment Knob and chasing some thread.
Total was $162.50 per corner. Replacement cost was $525 each. Ghey

Came back with new green paint and cleaned up. Almost new. A+ for their work

afaik, since i have a set of ohlins shocks and made some inquiries as to rebuilding them, ohlins usa will only rebuild us-spec shocks, or, basically, what they import to the us. they don't have an s-chassis application in the us, though, so we're pretty much screwed. this was about a year ago, though, so things may have changed.

A friend of mine works at a lamborghini specialist where they rebuild alot of koni struts (diablo shocks are $1800 each new $1200 each used, and having koni's rebuilt is a very expensive and timely proposition involving shipping etc. so rebuilding them is good business. they have 2 shocks per corner, you do the math). they currently have my HKS hiper-D, it is a difficult rebuild because the strut is frozen rather compressed so we had to make a jig for the press to get the upper spring perch off.

anyways, they usually start at $100 per strut/shock, a little more if they dont have a seal on the shelf that'll work. that is a much better deal than HKS' $150 per corner just to open them up, with a massive turnaround time (HKS USA are real hostile when you start asking them for seal kits which are readily sold through HKS japan). if anyone is serious about having something obscure rebuilt or doesnt wanna deal with the BS some of these companies give you let me know, they'll take on any project. one of the engine builders there also specializes in rotaries and is currently prototyping a ka turbo kit, theyre located here in Arizona

I remember reading that as well; unless Yashio factory also has a different set of coilovers that are not rebadged HKS ones.

Call HKS and see if they'll do the Yashio variants...

I just called Tanabe USA, they told me they don't rebuild their coilovers. Now I'm on the hunt for somewhere that can rebuild my Sustec Pros.
