Yes, it has been done. The trannys are alike, the only difference is the bell housing. just switch over the KA one and your're good to go. Theres nothing else to it, no cutting or welding. Cool thing is that the SR tranny doesn't use an overdrive gear

Thanks.
I've been told that the bell housings are different but the person didn't know if the sr20 trans would bolt up to the ka block, So now that I have discovered this I'll be tracking down an sr20det trans. Also do you know if the rear end out of an sr20det is interchangable with the ka24de? If so are there any other mods you have to do in order for it to work?

The SR and KA transmissions are the same except for the bellhousing. SAME. You cannot bolt them up unless the bellhousing matches the block. We've said this since 1989.

I'm not sure about that one. I don't think you can swap bell housings on the 6 speed. The 5 speeds are for the most part the same transmission(different ratios on some but basically the same trans). The s15 Silvias did not have a speed sensor in the transmission either. So you would not have any speedometer signal if even if you could use it. Last edited by Seikenman; 08-02-2009 at 03:02 PM.. |

The S15 6speed is a completely different transmission. It's nothing like the SR/KA/CA/VG30 5spd, and therefore doesn't swap over with just the matching bellhousing. Seriously, I've seen and discussed this on forums for over a decade, how are you not finding this information?

i asked in here to get answers because people respond. theres no need for me to search again if you responding in here is there? is it really hurting anybody to post in a thread thats been started already? i can understand why some could be mad that i made the thread. but i really dident find an answer when i serched. theres no need to get upset.
and i asked about the 6speed because i was curious. i dont need a tranny. just wondered. thanks to the people that helped |

Ok. Here we go.
The TURBO, I repeat, TURBO, 91 -98 s13 silvia/180sx have the same gears as a US 240sx. The 5th gear is .759 on the K's/turbo. However. If you have your transmission from a non-turbo, Q's J's or type s, you get a .838 5th gear, as well as a 4.111 final with the s13(if you have the car or got your vlsd from one of these cars) Turbo cars and s14 and s15 non turbo cars have a 4.083 final. If you got your trans from a ca18det your 5th will be a .838(same as a sr20de s13 and s14 and s15). The final drive is also 4.363(makes a KA and stock sr or ca nice and peppy i might add) Non turbo ca18s have different 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears with a .821 5th, but have a 4.375 final. |
