I am now trying out our new OT section (which I voted for). It feels great!
Anyway, I have decided since no one else has built an EK1 engine, I figured I would. Hehehehe. 79-83 technology rocks. The 81 Honda now has a functional mirror on one side and is running a bit better, although I'm still having minor issues with it. Here is the infamous engine. I was actually incorrect the last time I posted the engine code. I thought it was EK18, but it turns out it's just called the EK1. I'm hoping to get 130 hp out of the 72 base hp engine. Gonna bore it .050, give it a weber carb, etc. Hopefully this will be within a year. Unfortunately, a 240 or other Nissan product will have to wait. I have two other engines for this car, and so far haven't spent more than 500 bucks for the car and those engines. damn lucky, really. The older engines are getting hard to find. TO REDEEM MYSELF: I picked up an app at Planet Nissan in Flagstaff the other day. Going to try to get a job with them. That's the news. I'll keep you all posted. If I suceed with the plan, I'll have probably the power to weight ratio of my Dad's NX2000. Wheeeee! Plus, no one will suspect it cause I'm going to leave the dents in it. Still haven't sold the 63 Ford yet, but got some calls. 1500, any takers?

you got me excited, i thought someone might actually have some refined tastes and was talking about Jordan F1. They are getting cut off by Honda, and now Ford will suply their engines for the 2003 season. But instead i see a late 70s honda 72hp engine.. can you imagine the disappointment?

Believe me, if I can run that engine to 130 horse, I'll smoke all the little rice rockets. If. It's a lot of money to throw at my less than 500 dollar total cost Honda. If I end up getting a good job, then I probably will just do it for fun. The thing corners great, and if I stuck 15" rims on it and got the sidewall height to about 65-70, it'd be a lot nicer. The wheels fit perfectly but they're 165/80-14's An 80 sidewall! Unbelievable.
NEW UPDATE: Fixed idle problem. Spent a small fortune on vacuum hose, and replaced every single vacuum line the car has. Took about 3 hours and close to 30 feet of hose. But, it idles after it warms up now, and I can actually drive without pushing both the brake and gas.

There is actually a guy at our shop who comes in all the time trying to get his hands on an 83 civic, (i won't feign knowledge about hondas that old...) but he wants to put the 1.6 liter into it, and then message the crap out of that. Goal of around 130 hp as well. Figures with that kind of wheel base and power to wieght it should be a great little track car... so keep me posted on how your project goes.

Here's the crazy shit. The 83 models are bigger, but lighter. I don't know how, but they are. However, I just plain love the looks of the 79-81 hatchbacks. I don't like the square headlights of the later versions. The whole front end I disagree with. And really, they have great handling. I can turn this pos accord with 80 series tires almost as well as I can my dad's NX2000. That's with blown struts.
I'll try and keep you all posted, but it may be a while before I get to play with the engine in the manner I want.

I have an interesting Honda fact that should make you all happy. It came to me yesterday when I guy I know was telling me how Hondas have no bottom end. I informed him he was correct in most respects, except for the 79-81 EK1 engines!
72 hp/94 ft-lbs which means I actually do have low end torque in that car. Another reason it's the best Honda ever made, and probably the only one I'd drive. Plus, it gives me even more reason to build the old-ass EK1 engines.
