Its not too bad, a lot of fun definitely but it's a great way to build stamina. Since you're not running the whole time its not bad.

No disrespect intended, but the video had no flow, in my opinion. A few years back, when I first caught wind of the whole Parkour thing, and saw that french dude spidermanning it up the cement playground wall thing and then jumping off of it, I was like "damn..." However, what made that guy great in my eyes is that when he was running around, jumping over stairs and shit, he wasn't doing the showboaty, flamboyant crap that I see on TV and in the video you posted. The guy I saw had an almost fluid motion from one end of where he was to where he was going, and wasn't double-, tripple- or quadruple-backing just to do another spin flip.
I was always under the impression that Parkour was becoming aware of the space you're in, and becoming the quickest and most efficient at moving through that space. And apparently good Parkour is accompanied by terrible music... But This is what I'm getting at.. fluid motion from one point to another, no need for showoff maneuvers. |

Wish i could watch videos
Was into this shit as a teenager, wish i could get back in the game. Dubstep is the shit, but it's quickly becoming mainstream which sucks. |

I've really wanted to try this but have never taken any steps towards starting out. I'm fairly athletic, 140lbs, can lift my own weight and all that stuff I feel like physically I'd be good at something like this. I just need to meet some local peeps that do it to show me the ropes I guess...

I see parkour/freerun is the same to me, it's all movement. So where you take it and what you do with it is up to you. Yes it's all about fight or flight and just simple parkour enough is fun , but it's a lot more fun and develops the mind a lot more to challenge yourself with harder movements. Flips can (SOMETIMES) make getting from point a to b a lot more efficient. If I'm running from someone/catching someone, I wont flip , because I need to be smoother and quicker , but sometimes , depending on the situation , a flip can be more efficient. The french guy your talking about was probably David Bell , Sabastien Foucan , Laury or one of those main guys.
And it's not that people are showboating and boasting their skills, because a lot of people who train parkour/freerun are really kind generous people who are very open minded. It's all about fun and finding yourself. So that you can be a better person. Quote:

Parkour is the tricks. Free running is incoroporating that into movement (basically freestyle tricks while running or going somewhere). To the OP, you and your crew are pretty good. Your friend is sick. I used to do about 10 years ago or so. I was in the army then so I was in great shape. Plus I used to break dance. It just seemed like a natural progression. lol. My cousin and I got into it. Most I ever did was sprain an ankle. Unless you're doing tricks off of high stuff (and in durham, nc, at the time, wasn't a lot of high stuff to jump off of..most was on NCCU campus), you typically don't get hurt too bad. But, there's risk.
To Wagdato, that was a choreographed scene. It's a lot different than regular free running (freestyling with parkour). If you ever watch Parkour competitions, you'll see it's very much like the first video posted. Props man. I still love watching it even though I can only do 1/3 (if that) of what I used to be able to. wife and kids put some lbs on ya. lol
