Not trying to start an argument and not meaning to offend anyone but the hate of Emo has me tripping... it's a bit hard for me to understand. I agree, I can't stand some of the band associated now with the 'genre' although against my common sense I find myself humming to the occassional Chemical Romance song playing on the radio. Everyone pretty much agrees to hate these new bands and those that like them stay quiet.
But my question is: does it make me an emo-lover if I love The Cure and The Smiths (hey I'm Latin), bands that have a large following and critical acclaim? Wouldn't these bands fall under the emo label? Just wondering.

the smiths is basically legendary with the whole morrissey thing. the cure isnt really considered emo. emo is more along the lines of taking back sunday, from first to last, mcr. the hatred for emo comes from everyone leaning towards that style and trying to dress/be a part of the "emo scene". Its the trendy thing to do. I'm not gonna lie, some of its catchy.

^^ I see your point. Personally I've never met anyone that openly loves emo or it's trying to ride the trend. But I've been long out of high school so that may be it.
I have more of a problem (pet peeve really) with 10-12 year old's dressing all in black with pins, patches, doc martins, funky hair, and t shirts by The Damned, The Dead Kennedys, Danzing, The Clash, The Sex Pistols etc (insert iconic but and trendy punk band here) hanging outside the mall listening to their Ipods while they wait for their mom to pick them up in the van after a day of shopping at Hot Topic. You ask them a music question and get a blank stare. But oh well, live and let live.

Emo used to NOT include shit like Jimmy Eat World and other stuff that is basically pop-punk stuff. Bands like Appleseed Cast and The White Octave and shit like that were emo, which at that point, was more like indie, than anything else.

I blame young kids and MTV, honestly.
