Swapped Trans. Driveshaft Issue
So i swapped my s14 trans with an s13 trans and now it looks like the driveshaft doesn't want to seat square. As in, the trans is too long and driveshaft now doesnt fit. Not sure whats going on here..cant seem to locate an answer elsewhere.
According to the interwebz the only difference is the sensor and driveshaft should be fine. |

Thing is, im using the same front and rear portion of the driveshaft that was in the car. So since its ABS, paired with the s13 trans, ill need a diff portion of the driveshaft?

I'll snap some pics, and get some measurements(of the trans and driveshaft* for those who thought they would be funny). Everything seats flush, so no idea but pics may tell.

Ok, maybe images will help. (sorry for the tremendous image sizes)
Also, I noticed where the shifter should be seems a lot closer to the front...which doesnt make sense since d/s seems to not want to straighten out. Unless (this just occurred to me), I need to use a diff yoke? piece that slides into the tail end of the trans? Shit, idk.. This came in the tail end of the trans I swapped in: You can see it mounts flush. Also, wtf is that gap in there?! Last edited by TollieLifted; 04-14-2015 at 06:29 PM.. Reason: image |

The shaft with the 3 bolts (one that came in your new s13 trans) is for s13.
Mine has it also, on my s13. But my buddies s14 chassis do not have that 3/6 bolt shaft. I think you need to source out the correct drive shaft to fix your issue. I'm no expert, but from what I hear is that the USDM shaft, Jdm drive shafts, and abs shafts are some what different. Maybe some body else can confirm |

What if I was to get a non abs diff? Those a shorter, right, so that could solve the prob? Except I dont know the implications of a non abs diff as far as sensors and whatnot

Start at the beginning.
What car is this going into (S14 I assume)? Why did you swap the transmission? Car equipped with ABS? Was your car manual or auto before? Original diff? All would help since there are differences from ABS to NonABS and Auto to manual and ABS diff to NonABS diff.

Car is s14 ABS. Trans was toast so I found an s13 trans to replace it. As far as I can tell the car wasnt ever Auto.
It does look the previous owner swapped in another an s14 trans in before cuz they wired it all jenky it seems, so duno if maybe they swapped d/s at that point? havent measured yet |

Here is something else that may help
Plain and simple, Stock Driveshafts are 2pc S13: Section 1: Coming From Trans (ABS makes no Diff. in Length here) M/T = 395.0mm (15.55") A/T = 432.0mm (17.01") Section 2: Center Bearing/Mount to Diff Non-ABS = 605.0mm (23.82") ABS = 590.0mm (23.23") S14: Section 1: Coming From Trans (ABS makes no Diff. in Length here) M/T = 421.0mm (16.57") A/T = 441.0mm (17.37") Section 2: Center Bearing/Mount to Diff Non-ABS = 650.0mm (25.59") ABS = 636.0mm (25.04")
