initial start up after swap-HELP
EDIT 10/20/2008
starter has been replaced and car cranks now, just does not fire. please proceed to page two for the latest on this situation. ok so i have an s14 with an s14 sr. i just put oil and coolant in it today with hopes of getting the thing to start up for the first time today. so i pull the 7.5A fuse for the ecu from the engine bay fusebox. as per heavy throttles instructions, i cranked for 20 seconds, hearing a kr kr kr kr kr kr noise, that really wasnt very pleasant. i stopped tried again. oil light still on. i went inside, and left the key in the on position. i may have been in the house for 20 minutes i try again, and now i get nothing but a click noise. this is a brand new battery, could it really be dead that quick? did i do something wrong? i am extremely scared of this in the first place because this has been a damn two year project, and if something happened to the motor now...i may just take my own life. please help me folks!

devon. I will be over sometime to look at this. the charging system/battery doesn't have enough juice to jump the relay just click it. your starter is fine. I'll put money on it. yo battery is fucked. lower harness might have some faults also

like suggested have the starter checked out mine did something similar when it died. It took me so long to find a replacement starter that i use to have to push it hop in and pop the clutch and always try to park on a downward hill lol. trying to pop the clutch to start it while cold was a little more difficult i had to have someone push me with my other car to get it moving fast enough, yea i know sounds stupid but it was my first swap and i really wanted to drive it

Get a multimeter and check how many volts are on the battery. I had a similar issue occur with my SR and it was my battery that was low on voltage. Had about 10V I believe, but it wasn't enough to get it cranking.

got a new battery. 12.70A constant
i put a wrench on the crank pulley and it turned easily, so my nightmare of it being seized has been relieved. leads me to the starter. i understand there is a way to test it using a wire on the positive terminal and touching somewhere on the starter? can anyone explain?

It looks like the terminals on the starter arn't very tight.
But, I would take it off and take it to Napa or O'reillys and they will test for free. Its not hard either. 2 bolts, a nut, and a plug. |

took it to ASR today and they confirmed it was "bad"
they cant tell me more until they open it up, which should be wednesday they said. in the meantime, is there another starter that works on s14 sr?

yeah, fresh swap.
fuel lines are correct. i primed oil pump, and now oil light goes out as soon as it starts to crank. which i would believe should be expected. does fuel need to be primed also?

well now that it's cranking i guess the next step would be to check for fuel and spark
remove CAS, and turn it by hand while checking to see if you're getting spark (unplugged spark plug connected to the coil) Then do the same for the injectors |

remove completely so you can turn the shaft by hand.(while still plugged in) This tricks the ecu into thinking the engine is turning to it tells the plugs and injectors to fire
edit: of course u should have the key on so the ecu/ignition system is powered up |

just to make sure...you were grounding the body of the spark plug right?? (aligator clip from the washer on the plug to the head somewhere)
I had a similar problem when i swapped my RB. It turned out i didn't connect a wire that powers the ignition system. It wasn't on the ECU pinout so i missed it. Are you sure you're wiring is good? Did you check fuel? Otherwise the ECU might not be getting power or somethin |
