WTF is up with my sr?
aight, i've already had a thread about my sr with a white gunk i believe that is moisture build-up. okay when i start my sr up, it runs and idles perfect... no knocking at all. i walked out of the garage, left the car on, thinking it might rid my moisture problem. well after about 5-10 mins of running time i hear the idle dropping. as i go to see what the problem is, its revving itself up to about 2k and dropping to about 1.5k. and its knocking, so freaking loud its like i'm grinding my teath. and again appears this white gunk in my oil cap. so i shine a light through my valvecover and peek in, and find out this white gunk is everywhere! what the hell! its all in my head. but theres no coolant in my oil vice versa, and theres no smoke coming outa my exhaust. all i can come to conclusion is the white gunk is settling in my oil pan when its cold, i start it up, the gunk risses and spreads, and blocks oil to my lifters or something in my head to make it knock like the tinman is getting it on with dorthy! what the hell? anybody know what the hell is going on?

The revving is indicative of coolant temp sensor, so yes you have a coolant problem.
The white gunk is probably coolant, yes Check coolant level, check water pump MOD list doesn't mean sht, now does it?

well, its more or a paiste than foam... somewhat like a melted plastic. if its a bad headgasket, i'll be adding to the MOD list of a greddy/hks/tomei 1.2mm headgasket, and arp headstuds. not really a major problem, it can be fixed and not panicing over it. just another few weeks wait on driving it again.(which wont be much anywho its winter and its time to store it)

thats what i'm thinking, i havent a way to check my oil presuure yet... so, i'm pondering of dropping my oil pan, changin my oil filter again and changin my oil again. and see if this rids the gunk.

Update!!!
well, after having some spare time finally this summer... i figured i'd tackle installing my RAS, and diagnosing the mysterious white foam problem. i started by taking off my valve cover and i almost feel on my a$$ by surprise... all through my head was what looked like someone had water my head instead of watering the flower pot. it was moisture build-up after all. i drained all of the oil that was in it, and un bolted the lower oil pan. this gunk, was every where. so with the valve cover and oil pan off... i ran about 6 quarts of 5w-30, 4 quarts of 10w-30, and 2 quarts of 20w-50 straight in and straight out of the engine. there was no way off removing the gunk from underneath the valve cover or oil pan, so i pressure washed both of them. i let the oil drip out all night... so today, after waking up, i ran to my local autoparts store, and pick up a el cheapo oil filter, el cheapo oil, k&n oil filer(with the nut on the end for removal with a size 1 wrench), and some havoline oil(hey, it was on sale.) after installing the RAS with the FSM, i prepped the oil pan to go back on. i grey RTV'd the oil pan stuck in back on yadda yadda yadda. bolted everything back up, installed el cheap'o oil filter, and el cheapo oil. started it up(still with the snap-on starter button) and it ran perfect. i let the temp gauge get to where it should be, and cut the car off. after it cooled down, i again did the same process. jacked up the car once again, and installed the k&n oil filter, and the good oil. and ran it again. no more white gunk!!! my sr seems to be running strong, and it purs like a kitten. Thanks guys!!!

i'm sorry, but royal purple is pure shit. i've used it before, and it just flat out sucks. a bunch of techs that i used to work with will vouch for that.

Opinions vary greatly when it comes to oils... numerous and lengthy threads abound about the topic.
I've run just about every type of oil around and they all perform fine. Key is to change you oil ~3000 miles - recommended for turbo cars as oppossed to the 8000 miles or so for most cars - and use an oil that with as little a viscosity variation as possible keeping in mind the ambiant temperature the car experiences on average. |
