just because you put firecrackers in your pants doesnt mean you have to light them tard. why is it a "waste"? because there is only 1 cam? if thats your belief then u should go jump off something really really high. head first. because the engine is old? thats why you rebuild an engine so thats arguments moot. So WHAT is the basis for your statment?

I would like to hear everyone's opinions. Here's the question of the day....
Can the SOHC make the kind of numbers that a DOHC can???? 600+... Let's hear it..... |

How many DOHC KA's are in the 600+ range? Both KA's are good for boosting. Just because the SOHC has only one cam shouldn't make it an inferior engine to boost.

I agree with you there. I don't think that the SOHC is inferior. I was wanting to build a SOHC actually. They're a few guys on KA-T.org that are 600+. I was just wanting to know.... that if I build a SOHC, will it be able to produce at least close to the numbers as a DOHC.

you're right jb why didnt i see it before? i feel so foolish! i should sell my bodily fluids to afford the almighty sr! fuck you douche its not the engine its the driver and so what if we go with cheap engines that means more money for the things essential to track time. which is why i could own in a budget bucket n/a sw20 thats right. camry engine powaarr to the max bitch. and even with that camry engine, side by side on a track that actually had corners, i would bet on myself winning. why dont you go back to lurking, my head hurt much less when you did. i was going to stick with a high output n/a ka24e but just to spite you and whatever demon seed spring from your loins through incest im going to turbo my ka. it'll be the best ka ever! it will have so much power it will split the darkness like a sword made of pure justice and shiny blinkey lights and things! So, in conclusion, wrap ur head in plastic and call it a night.

And who said I didn't have a job, and what does that have to do with anything? What's a real motor to you? An SR20DET? You're a damn tool you know that. Let me ask you what motor you have in your 240 right now? I can bet it's a KA..
"Nice show car" WTF? I have rims and coilovers you fucking dick. Hahaha. Go shoot yourself in the face, mouth open. |

Good replies, BUT, no one has answered my question....
Can the SOHC make the numbers a DOHC can? I would rather build a SOHC, so I would like your opinions. Thanks. -Charles |

Jordan has never gotten over 350 rwhp. He doesn't want to play anymore because he doesn't want to foot the bill on "real" engine management.
I personally chose the SOHC instead of any other motor because of the torque curve. From what it feels it flows better down low which will spool a large turbo faster. After real headwork it should rev as high as I need it to as well, which is around 8000 rpm. It's not like I didn't have access to lots of other motors...ie CA18,RB20/25,SR20,KADE...I just prefer the SOHC. As do the majority of the GT3 SCCA car builders. They've been doing this for years and still build the SOHC. FYI Rick (site owner of ka-t.org) and I discuss these things every day. Since he's currently running the most consistant DOHC (633 rwhp) I think that speaks for itself. He also happens to have the quickest "no nitrous" 240, 10.9 in the 1/4. Myself and SOHC_240SX on ka-t.org are both shooting for 550+ on our SOHC's. Since his head and mine will be somewhat similar I'll post his head flow results. They actually came out pretty nice. If you guys want to have personal drama...don't do it in my thread! If you want to discuss the merits of the motor and actually want to discuss facts...bring it. If you want to want to bash your heads against the wall with opinions and uneducated opinions...take it else where. |

I have wanted to see some flow results of the ka24e engine for quite a while, what other neat information do you have? I plan on spending a one or two days Port and Polishing my cylinder head within the next two weeks.
I noticed back cut valves and P&P mentioned, is that just a basic P&P (intake/exhaust ports matched, combustion chamber/exhaust port blending & polishing, intake port blending)?

Sounds right. He also is running the oversize Si valves, stiffer valve springs, custom Colt cam, and solid lifter conversion kit.

Yes the stock rods are forged/shot peened but a little thin. I don't trust them past 300 rwhp though.
Just make sure you keep detonation in check though. I'm holding out for the Eagle rods to finish...they say they are working on them, but will not give a date when they will be available. |

Where did he get stiffer valve springs from? Only aftermarket springs for the ka24e I know about are from courtesyparts.com.

well I noticed someone slightly bent a stock rod at 505whp went the car over boosted, it was in a dohc. I find the cast pistons to be the weak point. If anything get stock rods shot peened and forged pistons. Good deal.

That was the "Twins Heath and Keith"'s car that you speak of.
One isolated incident isn't conclusive enough to trust. I also know 3 that have sent 3 rods shooting out of the block at 400. So I don't trust them above 300-350. Besides it's cheap(relatively speaking) insurance that you have to junk the rest of the stuff outside your motor if it blows. |

love how your keeping the SOHC and not hacking off your bumper, two things i plan to do also, why do people think hacking off the bumper supports a good idea in the first place? steel bumper or aluminum front mount; which would you rather have protecing you and your engine in a head on? |
