Just ordered the ahp alpha. Hopefully a decent first tig/welder. Welded couple things, exhausts, diffs, random bits with Lincoln mig, with no argon. Really shitty. Lol. Hopefully will use this alot more, with argon. Lol.
Pretty much bought it for future employment and finishing up my car. Will add some pics when I get it up and running. |

Yes was using fluxcore. But still was pretty shitty. And no nothing at all structural. Other than I guess the diff. I didn't use it that often and always just asked my neighbor to weld anything I was sketchy of. And I was just to cheap to buy/rent a tank of gas.
I have heard alot of good reviews with the alpha. And once it's in possession I will be taking my time with that and the mig. With gas. |

I dont like the welds between each piping, but I am not a fabricator just an admirer of the work on this thread...

That almost looks worse then that 500pnd piece of shit sidewinder RB2X manifold that one guy made awhile back. If that answers your question.... Would love to see the inside of those runners. Prolly looks like a coral reef.

i also am not a welder, but i gotta ask the knowledgable people in this thread, welding along the runners like that doesnt it make it prone to cracking?

I think that would be number 6, which on RBs is the cylinder that goes lean and gets the hottest.
Edit: Just another reason why V8s are better. ![]()

The welds along each runner are what scare me the most there. Yikes!

Hey guys, i have a project going and wanted a little advice from a seasoned fabricator.
below is a new frame rails i sectioned in and im looking to support the joints. Fishplates were my only idea, but since all of the joints are at a bend im not sure if it will provide it with adequate support. I've also seen debates on which surface the plates would provide the most support (top/bott-sides) i always assumed the sides were the general rule. the only reason i bring this up is because the only good, somewhat straight joint surface i have are on the top and bottom. thanks for the input. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

runners are all supposed to be equal in length. That's why they have to be bent and curve all "snaked" around each other for the single reason of all the runner being equal to one anothers length. Those welds along each runner has heat hardened the steel as well and will result in it being brittle which is prone to cracking like someone previously said above. Only car I know of top of my head that doesn't have equal length headers is are subaru's boxer engines. Honestly idk why they aren't equal and i don't know why they would want so much turbulence in the exhaust flow. Must be something to do with those flatties.

Something like that yeah. It's mounted on a bolt so it screws down as it goes. Quick and easy.

If you have a spare house fan, put a controller in between the wires and a plug, then place a plate on the top of it so you can control the speed it spins at and weld on it.
