S13 Vmount questions

Hi, I don't post on here much but I have a few questions about a Vmount setup I'm doing on my car. Yes I have already used the search function and to no avail. Every Vmount post is just "how do you Vmount a car" and "just asking for pics". I want real information about some technical sides of it.

Yes I know that this is not for a street car, this is a purpose built drift car.

PS: sorry about the beginning of this post but people on here are usually butts about that kind of stuff so I just wanted to get all that out of the way.

Right now i have the front of the car cut off behind the core support and the front braced back up and the fenderwells tubbed. I have a Rx7 style Vmount intercooler and a s13 sr20det mishimoto radiator. Its a s13 sr20det motor with gt35r top mount and greddy intake manifold if this matters.

My question is:
1. is this radiator going to work( I understand some modification)
2. do I need some sort of swirl tank or air catch and also how will I incorperate a place to fill coolant

thanks in advance

There is this info out there, but I will help.

1. It all depends on how you are going to route your radiator lines. A custom radiator is going to be easier than trying to retrofit this oem style one. What I don't like about using a oem sr radiator setup is when you lay the radiator down into the "V" position the outlets point down towards the ground. I would prefer them to point up.

2. Yes you must have a coolant reservoir breather tank. Your reservoir needs to be mounted higher than any thing that requires coolant. Most cars with top mount turbo's, the turbo is the highest thing requiring the coolant. Once you install a breather tank you can fill your radiator through that, so no need for extending the water kneck on your radiator.

Lastly... it's your car so do what you want. But cars only benefit from a v-mount when engineered properly. By you asking these types of basic questions my gut tells me you are heading down the wrong direction.

ducting is key to v-mounts!

Good luck with the Vmount...If done right it runs cool as hell and has awesome turbo response...

Yes radiator will work...Just going to need a radiator custom welded so that the coolant lines get routed properly....
Like...

Your also going to need those adapters with a barb fitting that connects to the coolant lines (IN&OUT) so that you can run coolant from the swirl pot effectively

Finally make sure you setup your coldpipe for intercooler so that it has a bung welded on for the IACV vacuum.....

Best of luck to you...

Thanks for all the response and yes I do understand how it works and how to duct it but I wasnt sure how to run the thing with or without a swirlpot.

I think Im gonna run the Powered by MAX swirl pot because it will work perfect useing the factory style radiator like so:POWERED BY MAX: ????? Cooling

Thanks again for the help and the pics

I used a koyo on my v-mount, but I had to cut about 5 or so rows off the end for alittle extra clearance. I do not use any kinda tanks or anything. I just have a moroso rad cap re-location system so the rad cap is above the radiator.
