Narrow rear tires
I usually run 205/55's all around.
Last event I tried running my new Dunlops (205/55) and my car wouldn't break loose for shit. It just gripped like crazy. I have a set of 15x6.5's that I was going to run 195/60's on and use those for the rear and the Dunlops up front. I just wanted to know if anyone had any experience running narrower rear tires for drift events. Any negatives, positives?

you were probably going to slow and not high enough or staying in the poewr (above 5k range) ka you dont drop below that clutch kick is your friend i always ran 205/55 all around 195 60 felt sloppy imo |

I actually had someone else drive my car at one point (who's waaaaay better than me) and he was having problems getting the rear to break loose. He had me switch the rears to some run down tires after one run. Given the Dunlops were brand new but it seems shitty to have to burn up new tires to be able to drift on them.

no excuses
i used to ALWAYS run FM901s on the rear of my s13 w/ 205/55/15 and it broke and kept loose they are great tires few problems you are probably too low on RPM and your rear alignment,if you are toe'd in you will have problems keeping it loose check your alignment!! but if you say Fm901s are too sticky for KA ill fucking kick you in the nuts because i ALWAYS ran either FM901s and ES100s on the back of my car for at least 1.5 to 2 years! NO EXCUSES!! its your car and driver, not the tires!!!!! |

what mods do you have for your car?
my last set of tires i bought were 205's which was a mistake if you have a 6.5inch wide wheel because the steering response was really sluggish than with a 195 |

You will be fine with 195s 205s and 215s, I've used them all on an SOHC KA, even running on 3 cylinders at one point. Something else is the problem.

if i can break loose with 17x9.5 225-45-17's, you needn't be having problems with 15's nad 205's.....
dousan already said it but i will re-iterate it again... with KA you need to constantly be flooring it, no hesitation of letting off for entry and mid drift....and dont be soft at turning in with the steering wheel, you need to be violent with the steering wheel entry as well...... with narrower tires in the back your car will be really rear end snappy, wont be able to go faster and a alot more biased to oversteer |

Dousan is GREAT i love that guy LOL.... dude i can break my rear loose with 205, im running 711 z rated...
running the stock KA u can break it loose easily till 225, but i have to admit when i had the mustang wheels on, i was breaking it loose at 245. but it wasnt predictable keeping it loose.. and i felt like i was driving a monster truck...

He is right up until now i just realized that i had once 235/60/16 on my stock ka and i drifted that shit like no other they were some kind of potenzas. Wider tires just makes me go faster = drive better not suck at drifting. Check if anything is wrong with your suspension then if nothing is wrong with it go practice because you sure aint making progress thinking those tires can grip.
