s14 ignition fusible link keeps blowing

So I was driving the other day and my car just shut off. All I was able to do was turn my headlights on and that is it. after searching I see the 30a fusible link is blown. I find some wires in the kick panel above the fuse box that have been messed with I believe to put in an aftermarket alarm(previous owner). I have since taped up all the wires that are bare and have been messed with and am pretty sure none are touching each other or bare metal. After taping these wires I go to test the fuse again and it still blows the ignition fuse.

I am in need of some help Ideas or whatever...this weekend I will be pulling the starter and having it tested

let me know what you guys think

^^^^^ i had this same this happen to me! Bad. Voltage regulator in the alt pulls to much and wound up nlowing the fuse. Pull your t and get it tested at your favourite auto parts store. Then if bad. Do the quest alt up grade. I got mine used from junk yard for 60 bux. Plus 50 for the kit from cody ace ( search). Best upgrade ive ever done.

When you replace fuseable link, does it try to turnover for a second, than link pops, and than wont do anything when you try to start? What he said above was the problem, voltage reg in alternator on my buddys car, just start there get the alt tested. Good Luck, post back here if thats not problem.

also check the wires that run across the front of the motor to the dizzy assuming its a ka car. My 95 wires rubbed a spot and grounded to the block.

when I replace the fusible link I go to start the car, I see the dash lights for a second then it pops. It doesn't turn over at all. I will check the alternator and the wires to the distributor tomorrow. Its a 97 ka

there should be a black plastic spacer in between the the alt and the power wire. its probably missing causing the alt to ground out on its self sending all 12volts to the link blowing it up. i had the same problem and went through 5 of those links

If anyone is still having this issue, first place you should look is on the harness coming from the fuel injectors going towards front of the car. Right as the wires run under the breather line on the valve cover they rub against a bolt in the head causing a short. It's most likely the larger black wire with a red stripe.

I know this is an old thread, but but I have to credit sf100 for helping me figure this one out. This would have been the last place I would have looked for the problem.
