1991 s13.5 Pink Beast RB25 to built JDM VVT-i 2jz!
Before
Got a really good deal on a JDM VVT-i 2jzgte is why I went ahead and decided to do the swap. Out with the old! New parts coming in! ARP L19 Headstuds, Main studs, 3 row Mishimoto rad, 1jz Bellhousing, Exedy twin, 87mm CP pistons, Eagle rods, Cometic hg, Clevite Race thrust washers, main and rod bearings, Xcessive Manufacturing jz mounts Anodized the block Purple! Rotating assembly in! porting and knife edging. (This is taking longer than I wanted.. But atleast I understand why it cost so much to have it done by someone) Should be worth the extra time in the long run... Got some of the accessories on, had the alternator and turbo housing polished now I just need to finish the porting, order some valve springs and get the head surfaced and she'll be ready to install on the block. Got the head back from the Machine shop, resurfaced and all the valve seats cut. Had to order $100 in new valve shims to get in tolerance. Installed the head, using stock valvetrain for now. Almost ready to drop her in! ( valve covers and some other bits are getting polished also. Looks half a**ed right now ) Last edited by MC.Understeer; 11-19-2012 at 10:25 PM.. |

So what was the reasoning of getting rid of the 26 for a j series.. both great motors haha was it because of parts availability... anyways you didn't go wrong should be an interesting build..

It was a 25neo not a 26 and I did it because I wanted a built motor and I didn't want to build a small liter engine. With the 1mm over I'm just a hair under 3.1 liters. Plus I love the sound of jz's. LoL as for my camera the plastic part covering my camera lens was really scratched, I've removed it now. My camera is actually 5 megapixels. |

Finally finished up the valve adjustment and timing. Ready to install the twin disk and trans soon as I free up a lift at work.

Started making my turbo manifold. First one I've ever made so we'll see how it turns out.
Making progress, just need to move the turbo a little closer to the head I think. Going to mount the trans with no clutch and drop the engine in to check for clearence. |

Picked up 16 18x9.5 drift spares for a good deal, tires are on the way, also getting a tire machine and balancer tomorrow. Good stuff to have in this motorsports.
My VEMS standalone ecu's I ordered came in 3 days all the way from Europe. Great system, tons of options to select from when ordering the unit. Ordered a unit with dual EGT inputs, 4 bar map, SD card slot for data logging. What sold me on these units is vvti control, nitrous control, internal wideband output, o2 correction and of course price! Ordered 2 units and 4 sets of plugs so instead of having 4 cars with ecu's I can swap ecu's into different cars and just switch maps! Not gonna drive 4 cars at once anyways! |

Finally spent some time on the build the last couple days, It might not seem like much but its alot of work to get the first runner mocked up and the collector made. Keep in mind this is the first manifold I've ever made and only the 3rd time ive ever welded anything in my life!
Using this Hatch I picked up and stripping down to put an rb25 in it for a back up car for turbo location and clearance in a s13 for the manifold. Last edited by MC.Understeer; 08-26-2013 at 10:05 PM.. |

Shoots, i saw you last time smack the wall, and drive off like a beast with only minor damage (Headlight/Fender/Hood). Seeing you ride in action keeps me going, and that RB was tough. Keep it up!
