I couldn't find this info on the web, I searched... So here Is my experience.

Ok, so I bought my car (1997 SE) with a check engine light. 3 codes, knock sensor, upstream O2, and MAP sensor.

I replaced the upstream o2 and knock sensor and those codes went away. The MAP sensor, however, is unique to our cars... 200$ from the parts store. Damn... And there aren't many koukis out in the junkyard... Well I started doing some research on my own...

Looks like the connector from other nissans are identical to the kouki map sensors. Why not try the junk yard?

Well I stayed on the guide lines of OBD2 nissans, preferable with KA24s in them.

I grabbed an MAP sensor from a 1997 Altima with a KA in it, it looks different, but plugs the part numbers (hitachi) are only one digit difference. Well I plugged it into my car, cleared the codes and guess what?! It works. Cost me$3.35 from the pull it yard.

Further research shows that almost all the nissans around 1997-1999 use the same sensor. The sensor is labeled "boost sensor" on the body.

The nipple fits right through the hole in the factory mount.

Knock sensor? Why would there be a MAF and a MAP sensor in a KA?

alot of engines have both. The 2jz-gte usually has both.

I second this, I have pulled a KA from a 97 and it did not have a MAP sensor on it. Honestly this is the first I am hearing abou MAP sensors OEM on KAs.

You are comparing an NA truck engine to the latest, state of the art GT turbo engine developed at that time.

Can you see what the problem is, or do i have to spell it ?

They all have it. Located between the fuse box and strut tower. It's more for emissions....

On my mazdaspeed 3 and the evos we've messed with, it had both MAF and map. MAF will get you a smoother running engine for drivability, but deleting the MAF and running just a map sensor (aka speed density) gets more hp because no restriction from MAF... But yes, ALL obd2 cars have and map and MAF

Kouki is unique... Like the evap set up on the gas tank that's in the right rear quarter panel...

Looked it up, it is what I have always known to be the emissions pressure sensor/EVAP sensor depending on who you ask, not a single thing to do with fuel metering, strictly for monitoring emissions.

True, on our cars.
But that check engine light is gone, only cost $3

In the DSM world, speed density is the way to go. These sensors on the kouki aren't good enough to do it, especially with real boost. Swap in a good GM IAT and a nice 3 bar sensor with a standalone... That's the way to go

Thats what I'm thinking...my 97 Kouki did not have anything like this, atleast I dont remember seeing anything like it when I did my swap back in 04.

It's labeled as a "boost sensor" on the body of the sensor

Well I'll be damaged. I've had this car 5 years, been under the hood more hours than I can count, swapped it to 5 speed, pulled the engine and installed a freshly rebuilt one, and just learned something new when I went and popped the hood just now.
