Rebuilt Ka24de low oil pressure problem
So i just got my car back from being rebuilt, and at idle the oil pressure is around 12psi, but with throttle it only goes up to around 15psi. Isnt it normally supposed to be around 50 in wot? It is still in the break in period so I am using cheap oil, i think its 10w-40 if i remember correctly. Any ideas to why it reads so low?

Why would you use cheap oil? This is why everyones cars get so fucked up because people cheap out. Oil isnt very exspensive and it is 100% worth it to fork out the money for better oil. Yes 15 is way too low. Dont drive the car or youll get to pay for a new rebuild. Im not trying to shit on you btw I just dont wanna see someone waste their money on a motor for something little. Who rebuilt the motor?

i had andrew from 9k racing do it for me, the first time we got it in it had no oil pressure, so had to be pulled again and redone, and we figured it needs a oil change soon for the break in period, then use good quality oil. its on a mechanical gauge

He gave it to you with problems?
you took it knowing it has problems? or they didn't take care of them before you had to come here? ...you let him pull it again after selling you a bad motor? That sounds odd. theres only a few reasons to have low oil pressure, and by design the ka oil pump has a pretty good life span on it to say the least. So check your gauge.. if 2 motors have been low oil pressure consecutively that should be reason to check a gauge i would think.. where is the sensor being installed? try a thicker oil and see if you see any change.. im not saying a oil pump cant go bad, although ive seen them seize more often than actually function and produce lower pressure.. but finding 2 from the same dude is kind of odd.. always use good oil on new engines. thats when its in its most vulnerable state.. the way it breaks in will define how long its life will be and why it will most likely fail and change it often. its worth the cost. i hope you get it all worked out soon and dont blow it up and end up spending lots more money :/ also, you shouldn't floor it during break in period.. thats why there is such a thing. |
