This kind of behavior is popping up all around the place. I get charged something like $10-$20 if I pay one of my credit cards over the phone. The reason they charge like this is because companies have to pay for extra overhead when people dont pay through electronic fund transfer systems.
My guess is that your phone provider doesnt want to hire employees smart enough to count and handle cash, thus penalizing you so you're more willing to pay through a funds transfer next time. |

This is pretty ridiculous, money is money whether its a funds transfer or cash...but like Agamemnon said, I think it has to do with companies having to pay for extra overhead. With a credit card, the funds will automatically be transfered into their company account where as cash will have to make its way into the account costing them more.

A co-worker of mine went to the store to pay his bill on the ATM-like machine they have there and it was broken. They charged him extra to pay with one of the clerks... even though their machine was busted. WTF!? |

Good point. A lot of people don't realize that we are quickly becoming a cashless society. For those of you who don't realize this truth, nor recognize a coming one world government, you might be in for some big surprises. I hope that none of us are here when accepting "the mark of the beast" is mandatory to buy or sell. |

Just like some loans, you get charged for paying it off early....guess they want that interest instead of that money being opened back up.

Actually IIRC cash CANNOT be refused. It's considered the highest form of payment really. It's technically government issues documents. It's the hard substance that credit cards/electronic money only represents as being in the posession elsewhere of the card holder etc.
If someone wanted to charge me extra for paying cash, I'd really tell them to fuck off. That's ridiculous.
